Secret Files Reveal Turkish Intelligence Operations In Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands And Sweden

Several documents marked “secret” which were obtained by Nordic Monitor have revealed details of illegal surveillance activities of critics based in Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden carried out by Turkey’s intelligence services.

The documents, dated 19 March 2019, show that Turks resident in the countries have been closely monitored due to their critical views of the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The intelligence was used by Turkish authorities to initiate criminal prosecutions against critics, prepare extradition requests and file Interpol notices.

Turkey has been accused of abusing Interpol’s law enforcement mechanisms to silence Erdoğan critics from all segments of Turkish society. According to related reports, Turkey had sought Red Notices for around 60,000 individuals in 2016. Turkish police have also been accused of manipulating Interpol’s Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (STLD) database for political purposes, filing fraudulent missing, lost or revoked passports and travel documents to invalidate the papers of critics and opponents of the Turkish government.

Consequently, Interpol prohibited the use of its communications channels to interact on any issue that concerned the 2016 coup attempt in Turkey because it contravened the provisions of Article 3 of Interpol’s constitution. Article 3 “strictly forbids the Organization to undertake any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious or racial character.”

Critics of the Erdoğan government, especially members of the Gülen movement, have been facing surveillance, harassment, threats of death and abduction since at least 2014, when then-Prime Minister and now President Erdoğan began to suspect the group of being involved in plots to overthrow the government. In turn, Erdoğan’s critics accuse him and State officials of inventing false plots and filing fraudulent charges against opponents to cover up or distract media attention from their own errors and troubles, ranging from claims of widespread corruption (including among the president’s family and closest political and business associates) to Turkey’s dangerous and disastrous decision to support of at least some of the terrorist groups that have been ravaging the northern parts of Syria.

Rocket Lands in Baghdad's Green Zone, Large Explosions Heard Near US Embassy - Report

According to reports, a rocket has landed near the US embassy in Baghdad.

Sirens are "going off at the US embassy compound," according to AFP.

"Iraqi security sources say two Katyusha rockets hit near the US embassy in Baghdad's Green Zone," an Al Jazeera reported has stated.

The Green Zone is used to refer to an "international zone" area in the Karkh district of central Baghdad, which served as the governmental center of the Coalition Provisional Authority following the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.

‘THIS WILL KILL YOU’: Media goes into anti-HCQ panic mode after Trump says he’s taking the drug to fend off Covid-19

Media outlets rushed to denounce hydroxychloroquine after President Donald Trump revealed he was taking it as a prophylactic against the coronavirus. Pundits called the drug dangerous and ineffective based on selected studies.

“I've been taking it for about a week and a half now and I'm still here,” Trump said Monday during an event at the White House, adding he had heard good things about the drug from medical professionals.

Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto immediately reacted by bringing up one long-documented side effect of the drug, used for decades to treat malaria and lupus.

If you are in a risky population here, and you are taking this as a preventative treatment … it will kill you. I cannot stress enough. This will kill you.

Cavuto proceeded to interview two physicians, quickly cutting off the one that said the drug “may be beneficial and potentially life-saving” for some patients, while allowing the other to argue that no one should take anything without consulting their personal doctor.

‘Equipment on its way’: US to send 200 ventilators to Russia after Moscow dispatches a planeload of aid to New York

The US has sent 200 ventilators to Russia, where the number of new coronavirus cases continues to ebb. The assistance comes more than a month after Moscow sent medical supplies to America in a similar move.

The California-manufactured equipment was donated on orders from President Donald Trump, who was responding to the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a US administration official told TASS. The life-saving equipment is being delivered free of charge, the official added.

Although Russia has recently seen a decrease in the number of daily infections - that have dropped below 10,000 for two days in a row, down from around 11,000 a week ago – the official argued that the Covid-19 outbreak is “worsening” there.

State Secretary Mike Pompeo appeared to have confirmed the delivery on Sunday. The “equipment is on its way,” he told the Washington Examiner. The shipment will include “some testing equipment, as well as ventilators,” the US top diplomat said, without elaborating as to the quantity of the devices.

Moscow is not the sole beneficiary of the generous move, since Washington has already shipped some 15,000 ventilators to more than 50 countries, said the official who spoke to TASS.

The coronavirus situation in Russia might look quite grim, since the number of confirmed cases there has risen to more than 290,000, putting it in first place in Europe as far as the sheer number of people affected. However, Russia also has one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates on the continent – a fact that some US media and experts seem to be having a hard time to grasp. Bloomberg has recently come under fire for what many considered to be a tone-deaf headline after it rolled out a report asking why the virus “hasn’t killed more Russians” in its title.
