Get a shortwave receiver like a Satelit 750 from grundig and some form of mobile/base dual band transceiver.
The dualband radio will do vhf uhf ham, that'll be most useful for local info. Shortwave will do the long distance stuff for the not local news.
Don't talk on the dual band until after shtf.
