The Senate Banking Committee is taking its first look at spending under the massive CARES Act, which Congress approved in March to provide assistance to individuals, businesses and local governments affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin are expected to be pressed by senators about their stewardship of specific aspects of the approximately $2 trillion relief package at Tuesday's remote hearing.

(Bloomberg) – Australian exports of wine, seafood, oatmeal, fruit and dairy are in danger of being targeted by China if Beijing decides to escalate a row over Canberra’s calls for an investigation into the origin of Covid-19, according to people familiar with the matter.
Chinese officials have compiled a list of potential goods that it could target by implementing stricter quality checks, anti-dumping probes or tariffs, adding steps to or delaying customs clearances, or using state media to encourage consumer boycotts, the people said, asking not to be identified as the discussions are private.
Australia sparked China’s ire by leading calls for an investigation into the origins of the coronavirus, writing to G-20 leaders to gather support, as well as urging for an international probe into wildlife wet markets. China has criticized Australia’s stance, and threatened to boycott goods from its key trading partner.

Navy Multiband Terminal
The Navy Multiband Terminal (NMT) represents yet another benchmark for Raytheon in the naval communications field. It's a next-generation satellite communication (SATCOM) system for the U.S. Navy and coalition partners that provides seamless assured connectivity between a ship's or submarine's computer network and the Global Information Grid.
NMT is expected to be installed in approximately 300 U.S. Navy ships, submarines and shore stations, replacing several existing SATCOM systems developed and maintained by Raytheon since the mid-1980s. The new system will provide naval commanders and sailors with greater data throughput capacity and improved protection against enemy intercepts.

Fifteen Republican state attorneys general are urging the judge ruling over the Michael Flynn case to dismiss it, showing support for the Trump administration’s move to drop the charges against the president's first national security adviser.Â
In a briefing filed Monday, the attorneys general said the court has created a problem of “inserting itself into the Justice Department's exercise of prosecutorial discretion.”Â
They called for Judge Emmet Sullivan to “immediately grant” the federal government’s motion to dismiss the case against Flynn, and said the federal judiciary “has no authority to make the executive branch pursue…a criminal conviction.”
“Simply put,” their brief reads, “the decision not to pursue a criminal conviction is vested in the executive branch alone — and neither the legislature nor the judiciary has any role in the executive’s making of that decision.”
They call for the court to grant the motion “without commentary on the decision to charge or not to charge, because such punditry disrobes the judiciary of its cloak of impartiality.”
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is the lead writer on the briefing, which is signed by attorneys generals for Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.Â
The order was filed after Sullivan, a Clinton appointee, said he would allow interested parties to weigh in on the Flynn case. Sullivan on Monday tapped John Gleeson, a former federal judge in New York, to argue against the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) motion to drop charges against Flynn.Â
Flynn’s attorneys don't want the judge to allow outside parties to file briefs in the case, arguing it violates the separation of powers.Â

"It is no accident that amicus briefs are excluded in criminal cases," Flynn's lawyers wrote in a filing last week. "A criminal case is a dispute between the United States and a criminal defendant. For the Court to allow another to stand in the place of the government would be a violation of the separation of powers."
The DOJ's move to drop charges against Flynn for charges of lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia in 2017 has sparked widespread pushback from Democrats, some of whom have renewed calls for Attorney General William Barr to resign over the decision.Â
Last week, nearly 2,000 former DOJ officials who served under Republican and Democratic administrations condemned the department for the move.Â
