EU Commissioner: Bloc would be poorer without migrants

Ylva Johansson, former Swedish politician and now EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, said during a recent interview that the European Union would be poorer without migrants.

In an interview with the left-wing think tank Friends of Europe, the commissioner argues that it should go without saying that migration into Europe should be viewed in only a positive light. For Johansson, the only people who’re describing immigration as a problem are “right-wing extremists”.

“There are always right-wing extremists and racist and xenophobic forces who want to describe migrants as something abnormal, who want to describe migrants as “they”,” she says.

“But it is not true. Migration is normal, migrants are here and have been here for generations. So we have many migrants and many people with a migrant background and they are part of us, part of we.”

Johansson continues, saying: “In a normal year in the EU, we have one to one and a half million immigrants. Without them we would have been a much, much poorer union. And there will be fewer irregular immigrants, fewer than 200,000. So I think this is important to point out, that immigration is normal and that we can handle it. And that people with an immigrant background are now part of us.”

Johansson also mentioned that the European Union has been working new proposal for a migration pact that could be presented as early as this summer. The proposal is likely to set up a new legal framework that would allow would be illegal migrants to enter the bloc legally, instead of being smuggled by human traffickers.

“We need migration and we need to handle migration in an orderly way,” says the commissioner.

Brexit leader Nigel Farage has called on the government to act after he filmed what appeared to be the French Navy escorting an “absolutely packed” rubber dinghy of illegal migrants into British waters.

Mr Farage said that he sailed right to “the edge of British and French territorial waters” in order to document the growing scandal of illegal migrants sailing across the English Channel from France.

The veteran Brexiteer reported that he and his crew had already spotted “three migrant boats”, saying that: “What we know is that a French naval vessel has been seen escorting boats out of French waters to get them into British waters… then they are off their hands.”

Showing footage of a small vessel with approximately 20 migrants on their way to Britain, Mr Farage described the vessel as “absolutely packed” and “massively overcrowded”, noting “how close the water” was to the edge of the boat due to the weight of the migrants.

In perhaps the most remarkable accusations of the to-camera piece, Mr Farage accused the French navy of escorting migrants to British waters where they could be safely handed over to UK authorities, and that the captain of his own vessel had been threatened with having his ship impounded by the British if they persisted with filming the operation.

Mr Farage said UK coast guard threatened to “commandeer” the boat if they refused to stop.

“So it’s not just the French threatening us, it’s, you know, someone I’m out here with (the boat captain), they’re threatening him with his living, if we tell the truth about this story,” Farage said.

“This has got to be out there. Home Secretary, you’ve got to act!” Farage proclaimed.

Since the United Kingdom introduced the coronavirus national lockdown in March, over 1,000 migrants have successfully reached British shores. Reports have suggested that people smugglers are taking advantage of the recent warm weather and decreased numbers of shipping vessels in the Channel to send increased waves of migrants from France.

Media, NGOs Outraged as Hungary Defines Sex as Biological

Activists and the media claim Hungary is being driven “back towards the dark ages” after the country voted to define gender based on biological sex.

According to the latest wave of establishment fury against the central European nation, transgender people will “flee” Hungary or else be driven to suicide by the law, which passed on Tuesday after a 134 to 56 parliamentary vote.

Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, Gergely Gulyás, had responded to attacks with a letter last month insisting that Hungary “guarantees everybody’s fundamental rights”, adding that the measures relating to gender would ensure “legal clarity in harmony with the constitution”.

NGOs and mainstream media outlets characterised the country’s right-wing populist leader, Viktor Orbán, as an “autocrat” in pushing through the legislation, which defines gender as “biological sex based on primary sex characteristics and chromosomes”.

Amnesty International, funded by far-left billionaire and aggressive opponent of Orbán, George Soros, issued a statement on Tuesday alleging the law “pushes Hungary back towards the dark ages”. The group claimed it will “deepen an already intolerant and hostile environment faced by the LGBTI community”, according to The Guardian.

The Háttér Society, a transgender activist group which is also sponsored by Mr Soros, said the law “clearly violates international human rights norms”. They noted that the bill “has gained both national and international attention” including criticism from several United Nations (UN) officials as well as from a variety of so-called “human rights” groups.

State Makes All Adults in England Organ Donors Unless They Object

Every adult in England is now an organ donor unless they explicitly inform the socialised National Health Service (NHS) that they object.

The Organ Donation (Deemed Consent) Bill became law in March 2019, meaning that every adult of sound mind who lived in England at least one year before death is automatically considered an organ donor. Other exclusions apply, including those with certain health conditions.

Hitherto, to donate your organs, you would have to opt in to the system. As of Wednesday, people in England will have to inform the NHS either by phone or filling in an online form to register their refusal. Next-of-kin still has the right to deny organ and tissue harvesting after death even if you are registered on the system as a donor.

The website was unaccessible for parts of Wednesday morning, suggesting an early surge of interest in opting out of the new system.

A similar law was passed in Wales in 2015, with another set to hit the Scottish statute books in the autumn. Northern Ireland retains the scheme where bequeathing organs for transplants is still treated as a conscious donation.

Charities have hailed the activation of the law, with the NHS claiming it will result in 700 additional transplants a year by 2023. However, critics have observed that the law has fundamentally altered the concept of the donation as a “gift” if it is now “presumed”. Others warn that the government has taken a dangerous step in the ownership of one’s organs.

Trump Threatens to Withhold Funding to Michigan After State Announces Decision to Mail Absentee Ballot Applications to All 7.7 Million Registered Voters

It is obvious the Democrats are using the Coronavirus as an excuse to push for mail-in ballots rather than in-person voting in an effort to steal the 2020 election.

The state of Michigan announced it is mailing absentee ballot applications to all 7.7 million registered voters.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on Tuesday announced all registered voters will receive absentee ballots for the primary election in August and the November General Election.

There are 7.7 million registered voters in Michigan, and about 1.3 are on the permanent absent voter list. That means the local election clerk mails them applications ahead of every election.

Benson said the Michigan Bureau of Elections has ensured all remaining registered voters receive an application.

Those getting the application in the mail will also get a cover letter with instructions. Once a voter signs their application, they can mail it or email a photo of it to their local clerk, whose contact information will be on the application.

The application is also available for download at Michigan.gov/vote, and at that website, people can also register to join the permanent absent voter list so they always have an option to vote by mail.

President Trump won historically blue Michigan in the 2016 election by a very narrow margin of 0.23% with 47.50% of the votes vs. 47.27% of the votes for Hillary Clinton.

Because of this razor thin margin, vote fraud on such a large scale will tilt Michigan in favor of the Democrat candidate (which of course is the goal).

President Trump threatened to withhold funding to Michigan if they “want to go down this Voter Fraud path!”

Venezuela Reportedly Files Legal Claim to Force Bank of England to Transfer its Gold

In April, Venezuela, which has been struggling under a COVID-19 quarantine while crippled by US sanctions, demanded that the Bank of England sell part of the gold reserves it has kept there to help fund the country’s efforts to fight the pandemic.

Venezuela’s central bank has filed a legal claim in a commercial court in an effort to force the Bank of England to transfer £930mln ($1.13bln) of its gold, kept there, to fund the government’s COVID-19 response, reported Reuters citing a document submitted in a London court.

Dated 14 May, the claim reportedly says the Venezuelan central bank “seeks an order requiring the BoE to comply with the proposed instruction”.

Venezuela, which has been under coronavirus quarantine since March, hopes the gold's value will be transferred to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to subsequently be used for purchasing healthcare supplies, medicine, and food, says the outlet.

Venezuela so far has registered 749 coronavirus cases according to the Johns Hopkins University, with 10 deaths from the respiratory disease.

The government of Nicolas Maduro has been seeking to sell off some of the country’s gold reserves as a means of raising funds amid the current healthcare crisis and quarantine measures it has entailed.

The situation has been compounded by plummeting global oil prices and crippling US sanctions.

“The foot-dragging by the Bank of England is critically hampering Venezuela and the UN’s efforts to combat COVID-19 in the country,” Sarosh Zaiwalla, a London-based lawyer representing the central bank, was quoted by Reuters as saying.

There has not been any official response regarding the claim from either the Bank of England or the Venezuelan central bank.

The reported legal claim comes after a request made by Nicolas Maduro’s government in April to the Bank of England - which acts as a gold custodian for several developing nations - to sell off some of its gold reserves there and direct the funds to the UN so they might be used to aid Venezuela’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manager of Florida's COVID-19 Dashboard Fired Because Refused to Manipulate Data

Rebekah Jones, who managed Florida's dashboard website that displayed the state's latest COVID-19 statistics, claims she was fired because she refused to manipulate data so that it would support the reopening of the economy, USA Today reported.

The report on Tuesday said, citing an email from Jones, that she was removed from her position as the manager of the dashboard on 5 May and then fired by the Florida Department of Health on Monday after she allegedly refused to "manually change data to drum up support for the plan to reopen."

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' spokeswoman, Helen Aguirre Ferre, told the Miami Herald newspaper that the information on the dashboard is accurate.

In other US media reports, Jones warned that her removal may signal a change in accessibility and transparency of the dashboard data.

In a note sent to colleagues at the space agency, Loverro said that his sudden absence would be due to his personal actions, without elaborating in further detail. "Our mission is certainly not easy, nor for the faint of heart, and risk-taking is part of the job description. The risks we take, whether technical, political, or personal, all have potential consequences if we judge them incorrectly," he wrote.

"I took such a risk earlier in the year because I judged it necessary to fulfil our mission. Now, over the balance of time, it is clear that I made a mistake in that choice for which I alone must bear the consequences. And therefore, it is with a very, very heavy heart that I write to you today to let you know that I have resigned from NASA effective May 18, 2020," Loverro continued in the note, which was published by SpaceRef.

Until now Loverro had played a key role in key NASA projects, including the Artemis program, which plans to land the first woman and next man on the Moon by 2024.

According to SpaceFlightNow, his resignation came two days before he was scheduled to chair a crucial readiness review for the May 27 launch, which marks the first time that astronauts will have been sent to the space station from the U.S. since 2011.

It is also a critical venture for Elon Musk's SpaceX. The mission—Demo-2—is the final step before NASA certifies Crew Dragon for operational missions to the space station. It will be led by two veteran NASA astronauts, Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley.

In an statement sent to The Washington Post, Loverro rejected any speculation that his resignation was somehow linked to the imminent Crew Dragon flight.

He denied to share additional information, asserting: "It had to do with moving fast on Artemis, and I don't want to characterize it in any more detail than that."

Rep. Kendra Horn, who chairs the House subcommittee that oversees NASA, said the resignation of Loverro was disconcerting. The congresswoman tweeted: "I am deeply concerned over this sudden resignation, especially eight days before the first scheduled launch of U.S. astronauts on U.S. soil in almost a decade. Under this Administration, we've seen a pattern of abrupt departures that have disrupted our efforts at human space flight."

In a subsequent update, Horn added: "We need answers."

Childhood vaccine injuries remain steady just under 200 compensated injuries per year.

JTA — US rapper and producer Jay Electronica — a friend of Louis Farrakhan — released his debut album on Friday and it’s already causing controversy.

On the “Ghost of Soulja Slim” track, about a late rapper friend, Electronica raps in the second verse:

Peter Rosenberg, a Jewish radio personality who appears on multiple rap and sports shows, took issue with the lines. At first he tweeted about a different reference Electronica made to the “synagogue of Satan,” one of multiple phrases from the New Testament that has prompted theological debate throughout history. Rosenberg said the phrase made him uncomfortable.
