What are you, 24 or 25?

Old Atlanta media fag here, and twice your ignorant age.

Everybody worth a damn KNOWS that CNN is ONLY a resume-builder place. They like young recent college "I'm a broadcast journalism major!" kids in HR. Get hired, then you get scheduled for some of the most shitty hours and jobs imaginable. See, they KNOW you're going to quit. They KNOW you're just using them for a spot in the "experience" section of your resume. So they use YOU right back. Not getting much money, either, are ya? That's the way it was set up in Atlanta when the station began, and they exported the same philosophy to NY when they expanded.

You aren't going anywhere if you're not the "right" religion, either.

Honestly, better off doing anything else for a living than CNN.

Because you know what? Everybody over 35 in the media world is rolling their eyes at you.

But it's not as if you have friends to hang out with, is it?

Yep, and they're just churning out freshly-scrubbed, hopeful-looking journalism majors over in Athens, Tuscaloosa, Knoxville, Gainesville, and Columbia errrrry day.

Lambs to the slaughter.

If your kid starts making noises about wanting to major in journalism – for the love of God, talk them into something else. The world where honest reporters existed and valued is gone with the wind, and isn't coming back (sorry, Margaret Mitchell)

It's long, long past time when higher ed options need a giant shift to becoming something of actual value to young people who want useful, meaningful careers.
