Notice there are no injection molded parts, which would have taken 6 weeks to tool. Die cuts are fairly quick to make, like a week. Prototypes could have been made with scissors and the right materials. Acrylic face panel is just a clear sheet cut to shape. Web straps and loops are off the shelf parts.

 

That could have been designed in 2 weeks, prototyped in 2 more, plus one week for the production dies. You are probably looking at a photo of a prototype rather than a production unit, and what is the 'wait' time? Typically they will start selling before the first production lot is ready, at a MOQ of 1,000 units. Knowing they will have a hot seller, they may have MOQ'd 10,000 units.
