"Over the years, I have told Joe about how my dad got my mom a pony named Strawberry for Mother’s Day. We didn’t have anywhere to put her so we tied her in the garage for a few weeks and then as I recounted, we built the stable. Like built it with our hands. My mother sketched it out, dug the foundation, got my brothers to help her pour the cement and piece by piece, she literally built the stable. My brother Ian worked really hard. Mark talked a lot. And I was involved.. but I’m not sure I was that helpful. My mom is so beautiful even holding a hammer and hanging from the top of the partially built horse barn. When we were finished, Strawberry let us know how much she liked it. She became my pony and I won a ton of ribbons jumping her at a pony club in Middleburg, Virginia. She was small but she jumped high!
