Then don't let them be raped or murdered. Are YOU not armed? Are THEY not armed? Even your teens, too young to legally carry a firearm in public, should be competent in their use and have them available when at home. Many and varied are the reports of teens (and younger) protecting the homestead when their parents were unable to. More than a few would-be rapists have entered a home through the window and left on a gurney because a teen knew how to defend themselves and had the tools to do it.

My wife, no teen pageant queen, has been armed ~10 years. She was mugged in NYC before we got married and moved to Detroit, where I bought her a revolver to go with her permit because, well, "Detroit". It was too big for her. When we moved to NC, we both got our CCW and semi-autos. (And did our level best to ditch our "upnawth" viewpoints!)

Even if you cannot arm yourself legally where you live, you can (still) move. The choices, and the responsibilities, are entirely yours.
