Threat to the pulp timber (paper) industry.

Funny aside. You might not know that Black Currants are native to North America because they were annihilated to save an imported tree.

The lumber industry brought in fast growing trees from overseas for replanting their clear cuts. As it turns out theses trees were susceptible to a blight. It was discovered that the blight required the presence of the Ribus Genus plant in the area to act as a vector for the blight.

The forestry industry successfully lobbied our government to have a native plant targeted for extermination so their "better, faster, cheaper" imports wouldn't get sick.

I've got a small stand of mature white oaks, but those are my AC and shade. I've just started a number of apple trees and have pear and peach. Looking to add many more varieties around the place.

Hemp was a very hard crop to harvest because it took hard manual labor to crack the stem off the fibers. Slaves were paid a wage to do the work. Many slaves worked overtime and bought their freedom with hemp. It's wild, perennial, hardy, grows in shit soil, and is medicine…

Better suppress that shit.

Zone 6b, so citrus won't be an option till I can get a greenhouse constructed. Congrats and good luck with your future prosperity.
