Trump Declares Houses Of Worship Essential, Says Governors Must Allow Services Or 'I Will Overrule Them'

Update (1400ET): President Trump on Friday declared churches to be 'essential', and says he will 'overrule' governors who don't allow them to open "right now."

"Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential, but have left out churches and other houses of worship. It's not right," he said.

According to Axios, the announcement comes after a disagreement between the Centers for Disease Control and the White House over the specifics regarding reopening the country, after the CDC released a 60-page roadmap.

Canada Condemns Iranian Supreme Leader’s Comments About Israel - Foreign Minister

Canada condemns the Iranian Supreme Leader’s fiery comments in which he called for violence against Israel, Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said in a statement on Friday.

Earlier this week, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei wrote on Twitter that Tehran would back "any nation or any group anywhere who opposes and fights the Zionist regime,” doubling down on Friday calling Israel a “cancerous tumor” that will be “uprooted and destroyed.”

“Canada strongly condemns Ayatollah Khameini’s call for violence against Israel. This kind of hateful rhetoric only contributes to further destabilizing the region. Canada will always stand up for the people of Israel’s right to security & peace & stability in the region,” Champagne said via Twitter.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed his support for a two-state solution in a conversation with Alternate Israeli Prime Minister Benny Gantz on Tuesday.

The supreme leader also incurred strong backlash through use of the term "final solution" in his post — usually associated with Nazi Germany’s efforts to eliminate all Jews. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Khamenei of advocating genocide. Khamenei responded saying that he had called for the elimination of the Israeli government and did not mean the elimination of Jews.

On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif clarified that Khamenei, in his use of the term "final solution” actually advocated for allowing Palestinians to decide their fate though a referendum.

The Supreme Leader's statement came following the Palestinian Head Authority Mahmoud Abbas' announcement on withdrawal from every agremeent with Israel and the US amid the Israeli plans to extend its sovereignty over parts of West Bank.

Analysis: Schiff’s Radical Transparency Shift

Rep. Adam Schiff is calling for the declassification and release of a transcript of phone calls between Michael Flynn and former Russian diplomat Sergey Kislyak.

“We need to ensure a transparent and complete public record free of political manipulation,” wrote Schiff.

The request marks a dramatic shift for the California Democrat. Throughout the Trump-Russia probe, Schiff led the charge to oppose the release of FBI documents regarding the Steele dossier and FBI surveillance of the Trump campaign.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff on Friday called for transparency in the release of a transcript of former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s phone calls in late December 2016 with a Russian ambassador.

“We need to ensure a transparent and complete public record free of political manipulation,” Schiff wrote in a letter to Richard Grenell, the acting director of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

In making the request, Schiff follows on the heels of Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, who first called for the release of the transcript and other Flynn-related materials in February 2017 and again in May 2018.

But Schiff’s call for transparency marks a shift in tone for the California Democrat, who has resisted the release of classified documents related to other aspects of the FBI’s investigation and surveillance of the Trump campaign.

Many of those documents, once released, have shown that the FBI mishandled intelligence in its investigation of the Trump campaign. The documents also undermined the Steele dossier, which Schiff touted as evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during a March 20, 2017, congressional hearing.

Schiff led the charge throughout 2018 to oppose the release of FBI and Justice Department documents related to the dossier, which the FBI used to obtain Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) orders against Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

Media Completely Ignore Bombshell Report On Disastrous NY Nursing Home Policy Gov. Cuomo’s Daily Presser

“Over 4,300 virus patients sent to NY nursing homes, AP counts,” said the Associated Press headline.

“More than 4,500 recovering coronavirus patients were sent to New York’s already vulnerable nursing homes under a controversial state directive that was ultimately scrapped amid criticisms it was accelerating the nation’s deadliest outbreaks, according to a count by the Associated Press.

“AP compiled its own tally to find out how many COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals to nursing homes under the March 25 directive after New York’s Health Department declined to release its internal survey conducted two weeks ago. It says it is still verifying data that was incomplete.”

Cuomo in March enacted a state directive that required nursing homes to take in coronavirus-positive patients, which brought the virus sweeping through the most vulnerable population. He lifted the requirement earlier this month.

But reporters at Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s daily press conference on Friday didn’t ask a single question about the scathing report. The liberal media swooned at the feet of the liberal governor, and they eventually all sang Kumbaya together.

“It was the latest instance of what critics say is the mainstream press’ unwillingness to ask the popular governor any tough questions about the decisions he has made during the pandemic, in which his state has seen by far the most reported cases and deaths in the United States,” Fox News reported.

Cuomo was all smiles for his daily news conference on Friday, when he opened with a tidbit about upcoming Memorial Day celebrations in New York.

Cuomo also urged reporters to guess the number of people who have logged onto a government website to vote on the best pro-mask promotional video. In the process, he sarcastically referred to the press as “geniuses” and joked that a specific reporter always asks “annoying” questions.

The governor was asked about reopening New York, Memorial Day weekend beach policies, whether or not the state should legalize marijuana and sports gambling and the state’s COVID-19 death count – but not the nursing home crisis or the AP’s bombshell report.

New York state has the most coronavirus cases in the United States. As of Friday, there have been 28,743 COVID-19 deaths in the state, the fourth most populous in the U.S., with more than 19 million people. But California, the most populous state at nearly 40 million residents, has had just 3,604 deaths. Texas, second-most populous at about 29 million, has had only 1,461 deaths. And Florida, No. 3 on the list at 21 million and home to many elderly residents, comes in between the two, at 2,190 COVID-19 deaths.

In fact, New York has more deaths than the next five hardest-hit states combined, according to Johns Hopkins Center for System Science and Engineering. And more than 30% of all COVID deaths nationwide occurred in New York state.

“Cuomo continues to get largely Teflon treatment,” DePauw University professor Jeffrey McCall wrote in a column for The Hill last month. “It is interesting to note that reporters get in line at Trump press conferences to ask him challenging questions and then get applauded by their journalistic peers,” McCall added. “But they largely cower in front of Cuomo and are afraid to break ranks with their reporter colleagues.”
