If the NYT story happened later than the Q post, I believe we're looking at a desperate attempt to deflect attention. That would mean these people at NYT are either on drugs or brain dead.

That's actually a traditional practice, supposed to make the uterus contract so the mother won't hemorrhage. There are tons of blood vessels attached between the uterus and placenta, and when it breaks away the blood vessels have to close up in the uterus or she will bleed to death.
