Just a thought:
"what man" (lived) = Ismay.
"opposite" of Ismay in movie is "Jack" (competes with Ismay for Rose, dies vs lives).
Opposite is true. = Could Ismay have died and some "opponent" replaced him? Possibly even by locking/shackling him in the sinking hull like in the movie…
