Sure, we don't know all the details, but Sessions recusal hurt. A lot. It gave rise to the Mueller investigation. Sessions claims he offered his resignation after recusal, which he says POTUS refused. I really would like to know the whole story one day. Either way, Sessions had a good run at DOJ, except for allowing [RR] and Mueller having free reign. Was a huge black mark on this administration and potentially historically for the country.
