It should give pause to every American that the two top men at the Federal Reserve who are now implementing a new $4.54 trillion bailout fund for Wall Street both got rich working for one of the world’s largest private equity firms.
Private equity funds have been variously called “merchants of debt,” “vultures,” or “corporate raiders.” What a private equity fund typically does is to buy up companies by piling debt on the balance sheet, selling off valuable assets like real estate, extracting giant dividends for the private equity partners to the detriment of workers and customers, and then, frequently, letting the company collapse into bankruptcy while laying off thousands of workers or liquidating the whole company.
It should give pause to every American that the two top men at the Federal Reserve who are implementing a new $4.54 trillion bailout fund for Wall Street, using $454 billion from taxpayers to absorb the losses, both got rich working for one of the world’s largest such private equity firms: the Carlyle Group.
According to his official bio, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell was a partner at the Carlyle Group from 1997 to 2005. In November 2017, Stephen Gandel, writing for Bloomberg News, calculated that Powell’s wealth could be as much as $112 million.

N. Korean leader discusses nuclear war deterrence
Defense meeting seen as bid to press US ahead of November presidential election
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un presided over a key defense meeting of the ruling Workers' Party and discussed "new measures to enhance nuclear war deterrence of the country," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) and other state-controlled media outlets reported Sunday.
Analysts said the discussion is seen as a bid to press the Donald Trump administration over the stalled nuclear dialogue ahead of the U.S presidential election in November.
The analysts speculated, depending on the U.S. response, firing of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) or an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) can be possible around the 70th anniversary of the Korean War on June 25.
Cheong Wa Dae said it is analyzing what the North meant by new measures, adding "This is all we can say at this moment."
The seventh meeting of the party's Central Military Commission, according to experts, addresses as well Kim's efforts to tighten discipline within the military in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week, House Democrats whose colleagues rushed to investigate President Donald Trump’s coronavirus response amid the ongoing pandemic once again refused to give the green light to an effort to investigate China’s lies and malfeasance regarding the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. Democrats blocked the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis from investigating China’s malfeasance.

The CDC Provides Draconian Guidelines for Reopening Schools Without Reading Its Own Research
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has weighed in on the topic of reopening schools. It appears CDC staff wrote the guidelines without reading their own research. It is almost as if they would prefer hazmat suits become the fall fashion rage for those under 18.
The CDC guidelines are not mandatory, but they don’t seem to be based in current research or reality. Let’s start with the so-called ‘Guiding Principles’:
Lowest Risk: Students and teachers engage in virtual-only classes, activities, and events.
More Risk: Small, in-person classes, activities, and events. Groups of students stay together and with the same teacher throughout/across school days and groups do not mix. Students remain at least 6 feet apart and do not share objects (e.g., hybrid virtual and in-person class structures, or staggered/rotated scheduling to accommodate smaller class sizes).
Highest Risk: Full sized, in-person classes, activities, and events. Students are not spaced apart, share classroom materials or supplies, and mix between classes and activities.
Measuring the Risk

Berlin study reveals 92 percent of left-wing activists live with their parents
Official figures have revealed that the vast majority of left-wing protesters arrested for politically motivated violence in Berlin are young men who still live at home with their parents.
The data, compiled by Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) and published by the tabloid Bild, was extracted from 873 suspects who were arrested during political demonstrations in Berlin between 2003 and 2013.
A little more than half (58 percent) of the arrests resulted from crimes which took place in the neighborhoods of Friedrichshain, Kruezberg, and Mitte.
Of the 873 suspects who were identified, 84 percent were men and 16 percent were women. 72 percent were between the ages of 18 and 29.
While 92 percent of the suspects reported still living with their parents, one in three reported being unemployed.
Figures showed that the vast majority (80 percent) of crimes that were committed against people targeted police officers, while most acts of violence carried out against property involved arson.

Number of Those Injured in Earthquake in Southwestern Iran Reaches 16, Medical Service Says
TEHRAN (Sputnik) - The number of those injured in an earthquake in southwestern Iran has increased to 16, the country's emergency medical service said on Sunday.
"One person has been treated on the spot, other 15 have been sent to medical centres," the medical service said in a statement, adding that everyone has received medical aid and all patients have already been discharged.
All patients are said to have gotten injured while trying to flee the earthquake.
The 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred earlier in the day, at 09:11 GMT, with its epicentre located 9.3 miles off the city of Gachsaran, in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province.

‘Dangerous and selfish behaviour’: Trinity Bellwoods crowds spark outrage, mayor to send more officers Sunday
Amid another 220 COVID-19 cases and despite social distancing bylaws, large crowds gathered Saturday at Trinity Bellwoods Park as the city began reopening recreation areas.
Mayor John Tory, Coun. Joe Cressy and medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa were among those critical of the open disregard for distancing measures — with Tory adding that there would be a heavier presence of bylaw officers on Sunday.
“We have a health emergency that continues here,” Tory told the Star Saturday night. “The numbers are not going the right way. We do not want to risk a setback that would have things shutting down again. And so please, give your head a shake and think about this carefully, and tomorrow, do better than you did today.”
Tory said he stopped at different city parks on the sunny day to see how people were enjoying the public spaces and newly opened amenities, and if they were respecting distancing protocol. He arrived at Trinity Bellwoods Park between 7 and 8 p.m., after video of the dense gathering had circulated on social media.
