Swalwell launching new voter registration campaign using donor network from failed presidential bid

Rep. Eric Swalwell is determined to get voters to the polls this fall.

The California Democrat is using the national fundraising base built during his short-lived 2020 presidential campaign to launch Remedy PAC, which is aimed at registering new voters in hopes of expanding the Democratic presence in the House and Senate.

The committee's first ad, released Wednesday, strongly focused on the coronavirus pandemic and the Trump administration's response to the health crisis. The ad, dubbed "29 Days: America's Last Month," features clips of Trump participating in leisure activities such as golfing and spending time at his Florida resort in the early days of the outbreak.

A family member of a victim who died of the virus can be heard telling her story amid the backdrop. The ad closes with the message, "They can't vote. Will you?" in reference to the more than 90,000 U.S. citizens who have died of the virus.

Politico noted that the move by Swalwell could also be an attempt to bring young Democrats to Washington, D.C.

"It's a sign of early jockeying for power in the next wave of leadership in Washington," the outlet reported in its daily newsletter.
