About the ball ones- those are great to smoke out a fox hole or snake hole. They either run out or die of asphyxiation.

With this method, some of the smoke might enter your house, which should help you seal up that hole.

We had a similar problem a few years back, bastard rat snake, bout 4 feet long, fell on my head because he was climbing the front door trying to get to a birds nest.

That's where I came up with the improvised spear trick.
