Democrats Face Criticism for Not Wearing Face Masks, Violating Own Rules

Several Democrats who have insisted on strict stay-at-home orders — including the wearing of face masks when out of doors — have been caught violating the rules that they wish to impose on others for fear of spreading the coronavirus. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D), who has suggested he might make wearing face masks mandatory, was spotted on the boardwalk in Virginia Beach on Saturday — without a mask.

The Daily Beast quoted a spokesperson for the governor, who tried to help him save face: Alena Yarmosky, a spokeswoman for the Democratic governor—a physician who has repeatedly urged Virginians to wear face coverings in public—said he was “outside yesterday and not expecting to be within six feet of anyone. This is an important reminder to always have face coverings in case situations change,” adding, “we are all learning how to operate in this new normal, and it’s important to be prepared.” However, the governor was pictured taking selfies with beachgoers — at far closer range than six feet. The spokseperson also said that Northam simply wanted to make sure his social distancing rules were being enforced. In Texas, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) mocked Gov. Greg Abbott for opening the state. However, Jeff Roe, who managed Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) presidential campaign in 2016, posted a photo of a man who appeared to be O’Rourke, jogging without a mask.

Last week, local reporters discovered that construction workers were traveling to Wisconsin to work on Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s horse farm, in apparent violation of his own stay-at-home rules. Pritzker noted that construction is an essential industry, though he did not explain why the workers’ cross-border travel was essential. Pritzker’s wife has also traveled to the family horse farm in Florida; when caught, Pritzker demanded reporters respect his family’s privacy. Earlier this month, photographs emerged of first-term Rep. Harley Rouda (D-CA) on a private beach in Orange County, California, after he said that it was “reckless” for local authorities to allow ordinary people to go to public beaches.

Iran & Venezuela Hail Victorious 'Defiance' Over US As 1st Tanker Is Escorted By Maduro Forces

The first among five Iranian fuel-laden tankers has arrived in gasoline-starved Venezuela amid US threats to intervene against the 'sanctions-busting' activity by two official Washington enemies. Reuters reports: "The tanker, named Fortune, reached the country’s waters at around 7:40 p.m. local time (1140 GMT) after passing north of the neighboring dual-island Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, according to vessel tracking data from Refinitiv Eikon." Maduro's economy vice president and recently named oil minister celebrated on Twitter: “The ships from the fraternal Islamic Republic of Iran are now in our exclusive economic zone,” amid broader claims of 'victory' on state media. And per Reuters: "Venezuelan state television showed images of a navy ship and aircraft preparing to meet it." The other trailing tankers are also expected to enter Venezuela's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), or within 200 miles of the coast, in the coming days.

Iran's IRGC-aligned Tasnim media hailed the safe arrival of the first tanker as “A turning point for Venezuela’s sovereignty and independence,” according to a state media report. Over the past month Tehran and Caracas have become aggressively vocal in touting their "brotherhood" and joint defiance of Trump administration sanctions, for which US officials have recently threatened response, including the possibility of military intervention against the vessels in the Caribbean. Trump months ago reportedly ordered more Navy ships to the area to crackdown against what was dubbed the Maduro regime's alleged narcotrafficking. ran-Venezuela cooperation has also included stepped-up flights from Iran via sanctioned Mahan Air, which has lately delivered crucial supplies to bring some of Venezuela's derelict refining plants back online, amid a national gas shortage.

There are still chances for the US to make trouble for Iran’s tanker fleet. More ships will arrive in the coming days and then they have to go back to Iran. The port they came from was sabotaged by a cyber attack recently. US media pointed the finger at Israel for that incident. It’s unclear what the ships will do next. Furthermore, Venezuela is holding two Americans it accuses of being part of an ill-planned coup. Maduro officials days issued an emergency notice to the United Nations of what they called an illegal "threat of imminent use of military force by the United States." Simultaneously, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani put Washington on notice that his armed forces can create "trouble" - no doubt a reference to ability to choke key Persian Gulf transit points - should their be any attempt to thwart the tankers' movement. “If our tankers in the Caribbean or anywhere in the world face trouble caused by the Americans, they [the United States] will also be in trouble,” Rouhani told the Emir of Qatar in a phone call, Tasnim News reported earlier.

Netanyahu, prosecution fight over trial start date

The legal war runs parallel to the public opinion war.

MAY 24, 2020 17:44

The state prosecution and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s lawyers on Sunday fought over his public corruption trial start date, with Netanyahu asking for spring 2021 and the prosecution asking for it to be much sooner. State prosecution team leader Liat Ben Ari told the three Jerusalem District Court judges that she would get back to them with a specific suggested date, but her comments suggested that she believes the trial could start within around three months. The court ruled that the next hearing will take place on July 19. The date of the actual trial is not yet known. Netanyahu is the first prime minister in Israel’s history to go on trial while in office; it will take place at the Jerusalem district court. He is facing charges of fraud, bribery and breach of trust.

As the legal war went forward, there was a parallel war of protesters outside the courthouse, with public statements by Netanyahu’s spokesman and supporters as well as by his critics. A major dramatic moment was when a corona-era masked Netanyahu entered the courtroom, but avoided sitting with the other defendants until the photographers left the room. When asked by the court if he understood the indictment, Netanyahu responded, "Yes. I have read the indictment and I understand it." Security around the courthouse was unprecedented, with Shin Bet (Israel Security Service) and a massive police presence cutting off traffic for hundreds of meters and at junctions in several directions. Almost every inch of the courthouse inside was covered with security and media – although due to coronavirus social distancing regulations, media were put in two courtrooms adjacent to the main courtroom to watch the trial on closed circuit-TV. One of the room’s CCTV had no sound, leading to a few journalists running into the other room at the last second before any of the security officials nearby would stop them.

In contrast to the prosecution’s position of moving forward speedily, Netanyahu lawyer Micha Feitman said they would need two to three months just to know what their trial strategy would be. After that they would file pretrial motions to seek acquittal without witnesses and motions to attack prosecution claims to keep some documents confidential, he said. The strategy of all of the defense lawyers was to tell the judges that they cannot set a date for witnesses, but need several months to fight with prosecution over documents they want. Typically, the prosecution makes internal debate documents classified. But defense lawyers may argue that if their claims relate to improprieties in turning former top Netanyahu aide Nir Hefetz or others into state’s witnesses, that they should get some limited access. NIR HEFETZ, the prime minister’s former media advisor, turned state’s witness against Netanyahu in Case 4000 – the Bezeq/Walla affair. Netanyahu’s second lawyer Amit Hadad said that the trial cannot start with one case if there are disputes over documents in other cases. “It became clear to us during the pre-indictment hearing that all three cases are linked and nothing can start until all document disputes are resolved,” he said.

State prosecution team leader Liat Ben Ari said there were 1,200 legal files in the Holyland trial, whereas in all three Netanyahu cases there are only a few hundred legal files.” I am not underplaying these cases,” she said, but added that she believes the case can move forward faster than the defendants are saying. Ben Ari was also the head of the prosecution in the Holyland trial against former prime minister Ehud Olmert. Netanyahu tried to avoid having to attend the first day of the trial but the prime minister was compelled to attend by the court. The judges and the prosecution did consent to Netanyahu absenting himself from future procedural hearings.

Lawyer for Shaul and Iris Elovitch, Jacques Chen, said that the trial will be turned into a “circus” if state prosecution witnesses continue to interview with the media now that the trial has started. He asked the judges to issue official warnings to all witnesses prohibiting them from doing so. Earlier, at Sunday’s cabinet meeting, Netanyahu and Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz made a point of saying nothing about the trial in their remarks to ministers. However, the trial will hover as a cloud over virtually all major government decisions for the foreseeable future.

CBS Use Picture Taken In Ukraine 2016 In Report About ‘Mystery Illness” Linked To COVID

As you recall, CBS News was caught using footage from an Italian hospital and trying to pass it off as a hospital in New York City. This time round, CBS News has been caught using a photo taken in 2016 from Ukraine to describe a baby suffering from Kawasaki disease linked to coronavirus.

As you can see, CBS used the same image and described it as a “mystery illness” in children “possibly” linked to the coronavirus. This skin condition (Coxsackie virus) seen in the picture is seen every year in 13 of 100,000 children according to a Canadian study.
