‘Orwellian dictatorship’: Italian government to recruit 60,000 ‘civic assistants’ to snitch on Covid-19 rule-breakers
The Italian government is preparing to recruit unemployed citizens to act as volunteer social-distancing enforcers, who will operate amongst the masses as life returns to a semi-normal state after the Covid-19 lockdown.
The government will publish a call this week for 60,000 so-called “civic assistants” to help perform control and assistance tasks – like reporting social distancing infractions or a lack of masks – during its reopening phase, to prevent non-compliance and a new surge in infections, AdnKronos reported.
The government will specifically target unemployed people who are availing of social benefits to perform the snooping and snitching on a “voluntary basis.” Those who sign up will be demonstrating a “great civic sense” a government note announcing the plan says.

Russia ramps up gold production, adding to country's huge bullion reserves
Gold output in Russia continues to grow, increasing by 9.26 percent in 2019 year-on-year, the country’s Ministry of Finance said on Monday.
The volume of bullion production reached 343,54 tons compared with 314,42 tons in 2018.
Production for the period included over 286 tons of mined gold, the ministry reported. Accompanying mining surged 23.8 percent to 19 tons, while secondary mining rose to 38.49 tons.
Data showed that production of mined silver fell 11.1 percent to 996.17 tons year-on-year.

Libyan Army captures ‘one of the most dangerous’ Syrian ISIS operatives
BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:00 P.M.) – The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced that its forces arrested the Syrian national, Muhammad al-Ruwaidani, while he was taking part in the fighting at the Tripoli axis.
According to the LNA’s spokesperson, Ahmad Al-Mismari, Ruwaidani was “one of the most dangerous ISIS operatives in Syria” before he went to Libya to fight for the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) forces.
“The Libyan Arab Armed Forces units at the Tripoli axes arrested the Syrian ISIS member, Muhammad al-Ruwaidani, known as “Abu Bakr al-Ruwaidani”, one of the most dangerous ISIS operatives in Syria,” Mismari said in his statement.
He said that Ruwaidani had moved to Libya “under the auspices of the Turkish intelligence service as Emir of the Legion of the Levant,” stressing that he was fighting with the forces of the Government of National Accord in the ranks of the forces “led by Turkish officers.”
He added: “This is yet another evidence of the relationship between Erdogan, ISIS, and the extremist organizations in general.”
No further information was released about Ruwaidani.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – A second Iranian tanker arrived in Venezuela this week as the Islamic Republic delivers more fuel to the South American nation.
According to reports on Monday, the Iranian tanker, the Forest, reached Venezuelan waters late last night and arrived at its destination on Monday.
Upon entering Venezuelan waters, the Iranian tanker was escorted by the Bolivarian Republic’s Armed Forces (FANB) until it reached its intended destination.

Trump says he’s no longer taking hydroxychloroquine
President Donald Trump said he had “just finished” taking a two-week course of the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine, the medication he has vigorously promoted as a preventative or curative treatment for coronavirus, even as evidence piles up that the drug may cause more harm than good.
“Finished, just finished,” he said in an interview that aired on Sinclair Broadcasting Sunday. “And by the way, I’m still here.”
The president again defended his decision to take, and talk about, the unproven treatment in the interview, amid Food and Drug Administration warnings against using the drug for COVID-19 outside of hospital settings because of a risk of serious heart problems.

Still More Evidence That Lockdowns Were A Massive Waste Of Time, Money, And Lives
The nation’s economy is on track to drop by more than 30% in the second quarter. Unemployment is well into the double digits. Half of small businesses might close in the next six months. All for naught, it would appear, giving the growing pile of evidence that the economic lockdowns didn’t work.
The latest evidence comes from a report out of JP Morgan Chase & Co. this week. It finds that there’s been no increase in cases or deaths as other nations and U.S. states start reopening. This flies directly in the face of all the public health expert predictions of a major spike once people started moving about.
“Virtually everywhere, infection rates have declined after reopening, even after allowing for an appropriate measurement lag,” says the report’s author, Marko Kolanovic, a quantitative strategist at JPMorgan. “This means that the pandemic and COVID-19 likely have (their) own dynamics unrelated to often inconsistent lockdown measures that were being implemented.”
Another research paper released in early May, this one by Thomas A. J. Meunier of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, found that the lockdowns in western Europe had no evident impact on the epidemic.

Nonprofit organization seeks investigation of University of Pennsylvania and Biden Center for undisclosed China mega donations
The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), a nonprofit public interest organization, on Wednesday, May 20, filed a complaint with the Department of Education, demanding it investigate the University of Pennsylvania and the Biden Center for failing to disclose millions of dollars in donations from China since 2013.
In its complaint, the NLPC, which promotes ethics in public life and government and corporate accountability through research, investigation, education, and legal action, argued that the university and the Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement have violated a federal law requiring the disclosure of the source of all donations over $250,000.
“From 2013-2019, the University of Pennsylvania received more than $67 million from China sources. More significantly, after the Penn Biden Center opened here in Washington, D.C., in February 2018, the China gifts poured in all the more, and continued after [former Vice President Joe] Biden announced his candidacy of the presidency on April 25, 2019,” the complaint stated.

Federal Court Rejects Lawsuit Accusing Newsom Of Violating Religious Freedom
A federal court has rejected a lawsuit by religious leaders accusing Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom of violating religious freedoms of Californians.
The South Bay United Pentecostal Church in Chula Vista, California, filed a lawsuit on May 8 accusing the California governor of violating the church’s First Amendment rights through his coronavirus stay-at-home orders, CNN reports.
But the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals upheld California’s ban and ruled Friday that the ban does not violate the First Amendment, according to CNN. The court also rejected the church’s request for a preliminary injunction.
