Macrolide: One in a class of antibiotics that includes Biaxin (Clarithromycin), Zithromax (Azithromycin), Dificid (Fidoximycin), and Erythromycin. The macrolides inhibit the growth of bacteria and are often prescribed to treat rather common bacterial infections
Hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine with or without a macrolide for treatment of COVID-19: a multinational registry analysis
A flawed big data study that ignores the medical literature going back to 2005, and the experience of thousands of physicians who have been treating COVID19 patients successfully with a variety of treatments
Introduction
The absence of an effective treatment against severe
acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)
infection has led clinicians to redirect drugs that are
known to be effective for other medical conditions to the
treatment of COVID-19.
Right from the beginning they make a false' statement that ignores all the successes by clinicians in treating COVID19 patients. Then they make another false statement about redirecting drugs when the medical literature has hundreds of papers about the use of several anti-malaria drugs to treat SARS and several other virus diseases. The mechanism of action has even been discovered.
This paper is purely theoretical and relies on public data that has been found to be inconsistent and overstated in many cases
