Instrument Landing System couples with the aircraft autopilot to keep the aircraft on center line and optimal glide path for landing, based on directional radio beams. The latest iteratino of ILS, catagory 3, can also taxi the aircraft if dense ground fog is an issue. It's an all weather landing system to get the plane down safe in the worst weather conditions.
