Gramps speaks to the younguns

Back in the old days…

Back in the old days, when the news came out, every source had a different story. Sometimes wildly different. They had different perspectives and fragmentary info. You had to think critically to discern what was probably more or less true, and what must be just confused speculation and best to wait until more reports or corrections come in. And corrections were common.

Nowadays everybody parrots the 4am talking points, often word for word.

If anyone is online at 11pm tonight Pacific time, it may be interesting to compare the latest news feeds of several different media. I suspect that when they get their 4am talking points at around 2am Eastern, many stories will just get pushed onto their feeds and the dupes will be noticeable.

It would help if folks, right now, choose one or two major media sources like Fox News and LATimes, and identify where they post their new stories first. It is probably an RSS feed, or maybe a Twitter account or something else. Could even be a private RSS feed to an aggregator site who then publishes it.

I looked at USA Today. Google's info is wrong but leads to interesting things.

an error page

an RSS URL that is broken

http://rssfeeds.usatoday.com

feedblitz

However, it goes to this interesting site. Does someone want to create an account and see where that goes?

a working rss URL

When I filled in the rssfeeds URL correctly I got this

http://rssfeeds.usatoday.com/usatoday-NewsTopStories

And it worked…, with times in UTC. The 4am feed which is actually at 2am Eastern is currently 6am UTC. When timezones change you better look up the actual new time where you are.

I have a hunch that this is the master feed knowing what we dug up about Gannett and Tegna way back in the early weeks of the Q Age. However, if not, I expect that comparing several sites will lead us to good proxy. One of the new companies will turn out to be lazy and just pump out all the stories from the talking points with a URL pointing to their own site in order to get hits. Greed helps us.

If we can identify a site, that more or less tracks the 11pm PST or 2am EST talking points feed, and we have a stash of Memes and hashtags ready to go, we can counter their moves immediately

And drive the trends away from where they want them to go.
