CDC Confirms Remarkably Low Death Rate - Media Chooses To Ignore COVID-19 Realities
Most people are more likely to wind up six feet under because of almost anything else under the sun other than COVID-19.
The CDC just came out with a report that should be earth-shattering to the narrative of the political class, yet it will go into the thick pile of vital data and information about the virus that is not getting out to the public.
For the first time, the CDC has attempted to offer a real estimate of the overall death rate for COVID-19, and under its most likely scenario, the number is 0.26%.
Officials estimate a 0.4% fatality rate among those who are symptomatic and project a 35% rate of asymptomatic cases among those infected, which drops the overall infection fatality rate (IFR) to just 0.26% - almost exactly where Stanford researchers pegged it a month ago.

US biotech firm Novavax begins Covid-19 vaccine trials on Australian volunteers after getting $388mn from Bill Gates-backed fund
Novavax is testing a new coronavirus vaccine on human subjects for the first time, launching a phase one clinical trial with a massive grant from an agency founded by Bill Gates, kicking off a storm of concerns online.
The Maryland-based pharma has begun its trial, which will dose some 130 Australian participants with the new inoculation, hoping to see results as early as July and proceed to the second phase.
“Administering our vaccine in the first participants of this clinical trial is a significant achievement, bringing us one step closer toward addressing the fundamental need for a vaccine in the fight against the global Covid‑19 pandemic,” Stanley Erck, Novavax President and CEO, said in a statement on Monday night.
We look forward to sharing the clinical results in July and, if promising, quickly initiating the Phase 2 portion of the trial.
The new initiative got off the ground with a massive $388 million-dollar investment from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness and Innovation (CEPI) – its largest donation to date – a public health foundation established by billionaire Bill Gates.
In doling out his vast fortune to a number of similar health initiatives over the years – primarily through his own Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – the Microsoft mogul has drawn intense suspicion and doubt from the conspiracy-minded, who posit that Gates is committed to a “depopulation” agenda to rid the planet of its useless eaters. News of Gates’ connection to the Novavax trial set off alarms for some netizens, many warning the project is “not to be trusted” and urging Gates himself to volunteer to be the first guinea pig to receive the rushed-out vaccine.

Brazilian President Bolsonaro Under Further Fire After US Imposes Entry Ban
On Sunday, the Trump administration suspended entry into the US for foreigners who have been to Brazil in the last 14 days due to the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the South American nation.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has come under further pressure in his country and beyond after a new US entry ban, imposed by Bolsonaro’s “political idol” Donald Trump, The Guardian reports.
According to the newspaper, the news proved to be a blow to Bolsonaro who “touts his supposed closeness to Trump as proof of him steering” his country in the right direction.
The Brazilian president’s political opponents, The Guardian went on, were quick to describe the US entry ban as “a humiliating snub” and proof that Bolsonaro’s respectful attitude to Trump was “misguided”.
“Brazil: a health risk to the world thanks to Jair Bolsonaro. Even the US – whose president’s boots he licks – has banned the entry of Brazilians”, Valmir Assuncao, a congressman from the left-wing Workers party, tweeted.
He was echoed by Communist Party lawmaker Alice Portugal who wondered in a tweet whether Bolsonaro is “going to keep marching around with the American flag now”.
Brian Winter, the New York-based editor of the news outlet Americas Quarterly, was cited by The Guardian as saying that the warm ties between the US and Brazil played a role in that “the Trump administration waited as long as it possible could to take this measure”.
However, “even this friendship cannot protect you from being banned if you are passing the 20,000 deaths mark and you can’t get your curve under control”, Winter argued.
According to him, “it’s a terrible irony that the US has banned travel from the country that most closely imitated” Washington’s approach to tackling COVID-19.
The editor described the situation as a “very sad indictment of the COVID-19 policies really in both countries – because Bolsonaro has clearly been imitating both the actions and the rhetoric of the United States”.
Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in turn, said in a recent interview with The Guardian that he cannot remember a single president in the history of Brazil since 1889 who has been “so discredited and disrespected in the world as Bolsonaro”. Da Silva asserted that “today not even Trump takes Bolsonaro seriously”.
The view was supported by six former Brazilian ministers in an open letter issued earlier in May, in which they slammed Bolsonaro’s “shameful” subservience to Trump.
Trump Issues Brazil-Related Travel Ban
On Sunday, President Donald Trump suspended entry into the US for foreigners who have been to Brazil in the last 14 days, according to a White House press release.
Citing the number of coronavirus cases in Brazil, the statement said that the action will "help ensure foreign nationals who have been in Brazil do not become a source of additional infections in our country". White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany stressed that the new travel restrictions will not apply to the flow of commerce between the US and Brazil.
The entry ban comes as Brazil remains the number two country in the world after the US in terms of confirmed COVID-19 cases which have soared to 347,398 as of 24 May, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Spain’s coronavirus death toll DROPS by 2,000… after new counting system introduced
Spanish authorities have revised the coronavirus statistics, weeding out duplicate cases and deaths not linked to the dreaded disease. As a result, the country’s death toll sharply dropped by nearly 2,000.
The Covid-19 figures were revised downward on Monday, after health authorities rolled out a new counting system.
The current sharp drop in the coronavirus death numbers comes after the government was able to identify cases that had been counted twice, as well as to exclude altogether deaths that had been wrongly attributed to the virus.
Spain’s health ministry warned that “the discrepancies that may appear with respect to the data on total cases previously reported are the result of their validation by the autonomous communities and the transition to the new surveillance strategy.” It added that the figures are likely to fluctuate in the next few days as well.
However, even with the revised tally, Spain remains one of the worst affected by the pandemic. The total number of Covid-19 deaths now stands at 26,834 – 1,918 less than the total yesterday. The number of confirmed cases dropped by several hundreds as well, and currently stands at the 235,400 mark.
Worldwide, the coronavirus pandemic has already killed nearly 350,000 people, and more than 5.5 million have been infected.

Verification purge? Multiple Twitter accounts lose blue checks after interviewing ‘wrongthinkers’
Twitter has purged the blue “verification” checks from the accounts of journalists and podcasters who posted interviews with subjects considered controversial in the ever-narrowing centrist-liberal mainstream.
Mediaite journalist August Takala was stripped of his coveted blue check just an hour after tweeting an interview with former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson, he tweeted on Friday to his 4,000-plus followers. The following day, Wrong Opinion podcaster Josh Lekach tweeted that he, too, had had his blue check revoked after interviewing conservative provocateur (and now congressional candidate) Laura Loomer, who is herself banned from Twitter and several other platforms. Lekach has over 18,700 followers.
What do the two commentators have in common? Both interviewed unapologetic thorns in the Democratic establishment’s side. Attkisson, a veteran investigative reporter who now helms Full Measure on Sinclair Media, has long claimed she was surveilled extensively and illegally by the Obama administration – and she told Takala that “many, many others” were also likely spied upon.
“It was only thanks to help from intelligence contacts that I even learned that government agents were spying on me,” Attkisson told Takala. “Otherwise, I never suspected it or would have known.” She believed she drew the attention of the president’s snoops with her reporting on the botched Justice Department gun-running scheme “Fast and Furious,” as well as her investigation into the Benghazi embassy attack in Libya.

The Fight To Reshore US Pharmaceuticals
The coronavirus pandemic has revealed a troubling truth: Global supply chains operated by stateless multinational corporations simply aren’t reliable. Americans are learning this in real-time as they see imports from China cut off, particularly for critical medicines and pharmaceuticals. That has put millions of lives at risk since 90 percent of the generic medications that Americans use each day are imported. Even worse, 90 percent of the ingredients for generic drugs used to treat coronavirus infections are sourced from China.
This will have serious consequences for America’s healthcare and national security. In response, Washington must encourage the reshoring of pharmaceutical production as well as the development of countermeasures for future threats, including critical drug treatments, vaccines, medical devices, and personal protective equipment.
The Trump administration has taken a smart first step on this path. The Department of Health and Human Services recently awarded a $354 million contract for generic drug production to Phlow Corp., a Virginia-based manufacturer that uses state-of-the art drug manufacturing technology. The company will start making prescription drugs and pharmaceutical ingredients, including medicines used to treat COVID-19.
This marks a good start toward boosting U.S. drug production. But a comprehensive, whole-of-government response is needed. For example, the three standard antibiotics used to treat coronavirus-related infections — azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, and piperacillin — all require ingredients made in China. The United States also sources 80 percent of its active pharmaceutical ingredients from overseas, mostly from China and India. And even common household medicines like ibuprofen and acetaminophen overwhelmingly come from China. It’s past time to start reshoring these capabilities.
China undoubtedly recognizes its advantage. Horizon Advisory reports that Beijing hopes the coronavirus pandemic will “reverse any progress that the U.S. has made in countering China’s co-option of global industry.” Simply put, Beijing has the capability to cut off needed pharmaceuticals at any time in order to create a strategic choke point.
The U.S. must get domestic drug production back in gear. And where Congress can be helpful is in imposing ‘Buy America’ policies to ensure that federal agencies purchase domestically manufactured drugs whenever possible. That would help to reduce dependence on China for active drug ingredients. Domestic producers should be given long-term contracts to provide the certainty needed for investing in advanced technologies without fear of being undercut by Chinese companies subsidized by Beijing.

Michigan Gov. Whitmer caught in Memorial Day lockdown controversy over husband's reported boat request
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer faced backlash from Republican lawmakers after a reported request from her husband to get the family's boat out on the water before Memorial Day weekend – far from their home in Lansing.
Whitmer, a Democrat, famously has imposed one of the strictest lockdowns in the country, sparking frequent protests. What's more, she's told people not living in Northern Michigan to stay away from vacation spots there during the holiday weekend.
In Facebook posts no longer visible to the public, NorthShore Dock LLC and its owner, Tad Dowker, focused on what Dowker said was a request last week by Whitmer's husband, Marc Mallory. The posts caught the attention of Republican state lawmakers, who said the governor's family may not have wanted to follow the guidance she's issued for the rest of the state.
"This morning, I was out working when the office called me, there was a gentleman on hold who wanted his boat in the water before the weekend," Dowker posted. "Being Memorial weekend and the fact that we started working three weeks late means there is no chance this is going to happen."
He continued, "Our office personnel had explained this to the man and he replied, 'I am the husband to the governor, will this make a difference?'" The docking company later noted that Mallory respectfully accepted that the accommodation would not be possible.
Whitmer spokeswoman Tiffany Brown refused to comment on the matter, saying the administration wouldn't address "every rumor that is spread online," The Detroit News reported.
Last Monday, Whitmer announced restrictions would be lifted in some regions of Northern Michigan, but urged those who didn't live in the region to stay away. "If you don't live in these regions… think long and hard before you take a trip into them," she said. "A small spike could put the hospital system in dire straits pretty quickly. That's precisely why we're asking everyone to continue doing their part. Don't descend on [waterfront] Traverse City from all regions of the state."
The vacation property Whitmer and her husband have owned is about 25 minutes from Traverse City, according to The Detroit News, but the family permanently resides in Lansing, over 150 miles away.
State Sen. Tom Barrett, R-Charlotte, said Whitmer had urged Michigan residents not to "descend" on the city. "Yet, what did her family try and do?" Barrett said.
