All eyes on China as Africa spurns G20 debt relief plan
Lukewarm response as debtor countries opt to negotiate with Beijing and other lenders on individual terms
Fears G20 deal would block access to private finance and harm future credit ratings
Some African countries are opting to negotiate debt relief individually with China and other rich nations because of concerns they will be blocked from financial markets by the G20 debt deal to help poorer countries get through the economic shock of the coronavirus pandemic.
The deal, to suspend debt payments to the end of the year for the world’s poorest nations, was agreed in April, but private lenders – who hold US$154.9 billion of the total long-term debts of sub-Saharan countries, estimated at US$493.6 billion – have rejected its blanket approach to debt relief.

Harvard Magazine Calls for Ban on ‘Homeschooling’ and Abolition of the ‘White Race’
Prestigious university's articles make controversial wishes
The prestigious Harvard University’s magazine has received flak in recent years for two articles which have been controversial–to say the least.
Most recently was a piece titled, “The Risks of Homeschooling,” that addresses the challenges faced by children who are supposedly isolated from collective schooling and a democratic society when their parents take it upon themselves to educate them.
But Elizabeth Bartholet, a law professor and faculty director of the Law School’s Child Advocacy Program, recommends a “presumptive ban” on homeschooling, arguing that the practice violates a child’s right to a “meaningful education.”
Bartholet, in the excerpt, critiques the relatively unregulated practice of homeschooling and suggests that parents are not under any obligation to provide their children with best education.

Indian Medical Research Body Allows Use of Hydroxychloroquine Amid Safety Concerns from WHO
New Delhi (Sputnik): The World Health Organisation has stopped clinical trials of hydroxychloroquine, which was termed a game-changer drug by US President Donald Trump. The move came after a paper in The Lancet, a peer-reviewed medical journal, raised safety concerns about the use of the antimalarial drug for COVID-19 patients.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has allowed the use of hydroxchloroquine by health workers. The ICMR recently released new guidelines for the COVID-19 outbreak, where, revising its earlier protocols, the usage of the hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) drug as a preventive medication for healthcare and other front line workers deployed in non-COVID and COVID areas was allowed.
In spite of the safety concerns raised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the ICMR said on Tuesday: "COVID is an evolving field. Biological plausibility supported its antiviral drug. It became popular when the American government started using it. Based on the risk will not deny our healthcare workers from using it".
