Boatfag Update Report
Iranian tanker PETUNIA is now at a position 24 nm south of Grenada and heading due west at 13kts. Cap of position incl.
Still no joy on FAXON or CLAVEL. Have not observed any vessels in the vicinity of PETUNIA that appear to be involved in any tracking or intercept role. There have been media reports, posted yesterday in Boatfag reporting, that speculated the offshore supply ship ADAM JOSEPH in the vicinity may be playing a "picket ship" role. I'm questioning that, however, as ADAM JOSEPH is currently 28 nm away and reportedly stationary at an NCMA Bouy (and has been since yesterday late afternoon). See 2nd cap, AJ is under the red dot.
Doing a quick CPA (Closest Point of Approach) shows that PETUNIA came within about 25 nm (50 thousand yards) of AJ. Certainly close enough for a radar track, but not sufficient for most optics to get a good look-see. More importantly, AJ does not have a particularly high bridge, and height of eye matters when you're dealing with curvature of the earth at those ranges (pound sand in your ass, flat earthers). At best, PETUNIA has always been at such a long range from AJ that she will be almost fully (or fully) hull down, which means that anyone on AJ who is looking will see only part of the ship, possibly only the superstructure, sticking up over the horizon, if that much.
Adding 2+2, we already know where PETUNIA is located so who gives a fuck about a radar track, and assuming AJ could see anything, the IRGC guards who I am sure are aboard can always just keep themselves and their toys out of sight. So AJ doesn't really add much value imo. But WTFDIK?
