Reportedly, Dr. Anthony

Fauci, Director of the NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

(NIAID), which is receiving the bulk of funds allocated to NIH for counterterrorism

R&D, said on October 3, 2002, that while transparency in publication should be the

norm, consideration should be given to developing a "specially appointed committee

to determine whether publication is appropriate." He suggested the formation of a

panel to determine whether it is appropriate to pursue certain types of biomedical

research," similar to the Asilomar Conference.128 Others have suggested that only

certain kinds of sensitive research be restricted or classified, such as research relating

to the "weaponization of biological and toxin agentsโ€ฆ."129

The National Research Council report Biotechnology Research in an Age of

Terrorism provides recommendations for a potential self-regulatory mechanism. It

identifies seven areas where "experiments of concern" might exist, and recommends

that experiments within these areas be reviewed by an institutional biosafety

committee to determine whether the experiments present some degree of concern.

The institutional biosafety committees would thus provide an initial review of

proposed experiments. If further review or consultation was needed to determine

whether an experiment was of concern, then the experiment could be referred to an

expanded Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee or to a higher authority for

adjudication.120 The establishment of the National Science Advisory Board for

Biosecurity may be interpreted as fulfilling this role and function, but issues

regarding the authority and scope of the NSABB have yet to be fully resolved.

I've listened to Ann off and on for years, way way back. Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham both kind of have a certain blonde-smart-chick brand that they need to maintain. Particularly Coulter because she is so acidic.

Her whole schtick is to antagonize the consensus view, important to keep in mind. Its hard to say what any of these talking heads' true motivations are.

Except Limbaugh, he is the master, and wholly consistent.

It still seems surreal to me that my GF's father used to make us listen to Limbaugh whenever the car radio was on, this would have been around 1988. He'd say "shhh shhhh, you gotta listen to this guyโ€ฆ."
