Dig on the Dr. Rider trial in west Georgia. Dentist killed the girl he wanted to marry because she was in love with another man. She was very rich, an heiress, so the trial got a ton of publicity nationwide.

Her gravesite has its own set of ghost stories.

Officials kept dragging Dr. Rider in and out of jail to go to his trial in the adjacent county, and one day a mob yanked him out of his sheriff's detail, hauled him out on the road going to Alabama, and hanged him.
