Iran Sets Up Espionage Operations in Venezuela
The Presidential Commissioner for Security, Iván Simonovis, revealed that with this center in Venezuela, he seeks to "monitor" air and sea communications
With Iran’s help, Nicolas Maduro’s regime reportedly installed an operations center in northern Venezuela to monitor all air and sea communications.
The Presidential Commissioner for Security, Iván Simonovis, revealed that the center of operations would be located in Cape San Roman in the state of Falcon in the northwest of Venezuela.
According to Simonovis, the Iranian airline Mahan Air is helping to set up the operations center, which is also near the Cardon refinery, one of the largest refineries in the world, which both Maduro and Iran are seeking to revive.
According to the Security Commissioner, Mahan Air has flown 17 flights to Venezuela between April 22 and May 8.
“Most of them ended up in Paraguaná with the excuse of repairs on the oil issue… but it is not like that. What they are doing is creating an operations center in Cabo San Román,” he said.
The installation of the operation center coincides with the largest anti-drug operation that the United States has undertaken in the Caribbean, not only to dismantle criminal gangs linked to drug trafficking but also to cut the income that the Maduro regime obtains from such illicit activities.
The center of operations in Cabo San Román would not be the only one in Venezuelan territory. In June 2019, OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro condemned that “Iran and Hezbollah have a solid base of operations in South America in alliance with the narco-dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro.”
Although Iran and Venezuela have long shared warm diplomatic relations, they have grown even closer in recent months after Maduro appointed Tareck El Aissami as the oil minister and also asked Tehran for help in reviving refineries in exchange for paying with gold.

According to the Marine Traffic portal, this is the Petion ship, which sails under the Panamanian flag and departed from Cuba on May 21. It arrived this Monday morning in Venezuela and docked at the El Palito refinery in the state of Carabobo.
According to Diario de Cuba, “The Petion sails under the Panamanian flag. Its owner is Trocana World INC, and its operator is Caroil Transport Marine LTD. Boeing Restarts Production of 737 MAX Jet Liner
The production was halted for four months following two deadly crashes in less than five months, which killed all 346 people on board, with software programming problems being identified as the primary cause.
The Boeing company said on Wednesday it has resumed production of the ill-fated 737 MAX passenger jet at a low rate at its Renton plant in Washington, with plans to gradually ramp up output over the course of 2020.
"We've been on a continuous journey to evolve our production system and make it even stronger", the vice president and general manager of the 737 programme, Walt Odisho, said in a statement released on Wednesday. "These initiatives are the next step in creating the optimal build environment for the 737 MAX."
Scott Stocker, the vice president of 737 Manufacturing, added that the company has taken measures to help reach 100 percent production quality and ensure workplace safety.
In December, Boeing announced that it was suspending production of the model after two 737 MAX fatal accidents — a Lion Air crash in Indonesia in October 2018, and the Ethiopian Airlines crash in March 2019 — caused the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other regulators to ground the aircraft.

US-Canada Team Locates Fuselage of Lost Military Helicopter, Crew Remains
TORONTO (Sputnik) - A joint US-Canadian recovery team has located the remains of Canadian crew members and a piece of the fuselage from a military helicopter lost in the Ionian Sea, Canada's Department of National Defence said in a statement.
“The REMORA III remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) then dove to a depth of 3143 meters and quickly located a large piece of the fuselage. Remains of our fallen CAF personnel were also found in the vicinity of the wreckage”, the statement said on Wednesday.
The Department of National Defence said the search will continue for the additional remains of crew members and the rest of the wreckage.
The Canadian military announced last week that it had enlisted US Navy’s help in the search of its Sikorsky CH-148 Cyclone after it became clear that Canada did not possess the technological capability to recover wreckage from the depth of 3,000 metres where the remains of the helicopter lie.

Satellite images reveal China is dramatically increasing airbase near Indian border: photos
BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:00 P.M.) – New satellite images that were obtained by India’s New Delhi Television (NDTV) station showed the Chinese military dramatically increasing their Ngari Gunsa Airbase in the western region of Tibet near the Indian border.
According to the NDTV report, the satellite images show major construction being done at this base, which is located just 130 miles away from Pangong Lake, the same area where the Chinese and Indian forces clashed earlier this month.
The first image that was posted by NDTV, dated April 6th, 2020, showed a new airstrip with a single, small terminal area.
Meanwhile, the second photo, which was taken on May 21st, 2020, showed that the base’s size had been doubled, with either a new taxiway or a second tarmac.

The airbase works as a dual-use airfield, which serves both military and civilian flights. It is also one of the world’s highest airfields at 14,000 feet above sea level. As a result of its location, it is very difficult for enemy jets to intercept the aircraft there.
With the increased size of this base, it appears the Chinese military is preparing to strengthen their presence in this disputed region, despite attempts to deescalate the situation on both sides.
Most recently, India has sent a large number of reinforcements to the Line of Actual Contact (LAC) area along the Chinese border, as both sides take precautionary measures in case of a new standoff at the border.

Russia flexes might to send message to US, NATO that Syria’s coast is a no-fly-zone
BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:00 P.M.) – The Russian military is no longer tolerating U.S flights near the Syrian coast, as they have now intercepted at least three American planes in the eastern Mediterranean over the last 90 days.
According to a Syrian military source in Damascus, the Russian Armed Forces previously tolerated the U.S.’ flights along the boundaries of Syria’s airspace, but given their repeated attempts to test the radar and air defense systems at the Hmeimim Airbase, the Russian Federation believes it is important to remind the Americans that they are not free to operate in these areas.
The source pointed out that prior to the recent interception by the Russian Air Force, the U.S. Navy had conducted several flights near Syrian airspace in the month of May.
When the Russian Air Force’s S-35 jets intercepted two U.S. P-8A Poseidon military aircraft in the eastern Mediterranean, the American planes were not seen in this region for several days.
While interceptions are normal, especially when flying near another country’s airspace, the eastern Mediterranean has long been a NATO zone of influence.
With Turkey and Greece located in the eastern and northern Mediterranean regions, the U.S. and its NATO allies were able to operate freely without any threats to their aircraft.

The revelations come from journalist Barton Gellman, who described the content of his new book Dark Mirror: Edward Snowden and the American Surveillance State for Wired. The article, entitled “Inside the NSA’s Secret Tool for Mapping Your Social Network,” catalogs Gellman’s attempts to reveal more details about the programs Snowden first disclosed to the world.
What he found shocked him and, he says, represents an ongoing existential threat to American citizens.
