Trump offers condolences for 100,000 lives lost to the coronavirus
President Trump offered his sympathy to the families of those who had died from the COVID-19 virus as he marked the grim milestone of 100,000 U.S. deaths in a tweet. Opponents had criticized him on Wednesday evening for failing to mention the toll as tallies maintained by Johns Hopkins University and other organizations ticked into six figures.
"We have just reached a very sad milestone with the coronavirus pandemic deaths reaching 100,000. To all of the families & friends of those who have passed, I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy & love for everything that these great people stood for & represent. God be with you!" he tweeted on Thursday morning. White House officials had earlier responded to criticism pointing out that the president had frequently addressed the death toll and ordered flags to be flown at half-mast over federal buildings during Memorial Day weekend.
On Wednesday evening, Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, released a video mourning the loss of lives. โFor all of you who are hurting so badly, Iโm so sorry for your loss,โ he said. โThis nation grieves with you. Take some solace from the fact we all grieve with you.โ
