That was probably me. There is only one goal in chess … to either capture or immobilize the opposing king. EVERY move prior to that moment is simply a means to that end.

It's not about capturing pawns, bishops, knights, rooks or even the queen. Just the king.

The king is the only piece the other side cannot afford to sacrifice … so the whole game is about how to get the king.

There are a lot of potential moves on the way to victory … but there is only one measure of it.
