The coroner's report state it wasn't asphyxia that this was a heart failure from a pre-existing condition. He has a history of cocaine use and that can damage the heart that is undetectable even to this day. Shortness of breath is also a symptom of heart failure. The heat and the stress of the situation he put himself in was the cause of the heart failure.

*Floyd was sentenced to 10 months in jail for having less than one gram of cocaine in a December 2005 arrest

*He had previously been sentenced to eight months for the same offense, stemming from an October 2002 arrest

According to charging documents, an autopsy showed no evidence of strangulation or "traumatic asphyxia," but it says being restrained by police, combined with Floyd's underlying health problems, likely contributed to his death.
