Coronavirus Lockdown Dims Thailand's Once-Thriving Sex Trade

Since the government imposed a nationwide lockdown March 18, halting most business and inbound flights, clientele has vanished. With the country's bars, clubs and massage parlors forced shut, the pandemic has pumped the brakes on a billion-dollar business.

A 2003 government study put the value of the industry at $4.3 billion, A former Thai politician and massage parlor owner raised the figure to $6.4 billion in 2012.

The country on Monday will begin reopening more businesses classified as medium to high risk, including cinemas, gyms, spas and massage parlours. (Masks and social distancing continue.)

All operators are required to strictly follow the guidelines provided by the agency to prevent possible infections as clients use their services.

"Service providers are required not to talk to clients. Conversations must take place only when necessary."

Certainly not by taking news headlines as anything but click bait.

Every high school level curriculum should include a study of journalism (How to read the news).

Few read beyond headlines and fewer still think on their own about what's presented.

Q and Mr President, How are we going to fix that?
