More California Cities Join Revolt Against ‘Sanctuary State’

April 6, 2018 By Joel B. Pollak 2 Comments

Sanctuary cityTwo more California cities joined the growing revolt this week against “sanctuary state” laws enacted by Gov. Jerry Brown.

The city council of Fountain Valley in Orange County voted on Tuesday to join the U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit against the state that was filed last month in Sacramento — thanks, in part, to intervention by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), who faces a tough re-election fight in November.

The Los Angeles Times reports: “A majority of the Fountain Valley City Council overcame a reluctance to spend public funds on joining the growing Orange County movement against California’s so-called sanctuary immigration laws after U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher offered Tuesday to foot the bill for the city to file a court brief supporting a federal lawsuit targeting the laws.”

And on Wednesday, the city council of Escondido in San Diego County also voted to join the fight by filing a brief in support of the Trump administration’s case by Friday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports:

Following a contentious, three-hour meeting filled with name-calling and impassioned pleas, the Escondido City Council voted 4-1 Wednesday to file a legal brief in support of the U.S. government’s lawsuit challenging the state’s sanctuary laws.

More than 70 people spoke during a public meeting in a packed City Council chambers, with most addressing the larger issue of immigration and often echoing the national divide between President Trump’s supporters and detractors.

Escondido Mayor Sam Abed, himself an immigrant, defended the council’s 4-1 vote against “sanctuary” laws, underscoring the need to work with federal law enforcement authorities to keep the community safe.

alifornia Democrat Introduces Bill to Force Websites to Use ‘Fact-Checkers’

April 4, 2018 By Joel B. Pollak 15 Comments

Richard PanCalifornia State Senator Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) has proposed a bill, the “Online False Information Act,” that would require anyone who posts news on the Internet to verify their information through “fact-checkers.”

The bill, filed quietly in late February as SB 1424, requires all California-based websites to develop a plan to fight “fake news,” to use “fact-checkers,” and to warn readers — including via social media — of “false information.”

The bill reads as follows:

Could President Trump Nationalize the National Guard in California like JFK did?

Charlie Gasparino said Brown's actions are "almost like [former Alabama Gov.] George Wallace (D) standing in front of the door of the school."

On June 11, 1963, Wallace stood in the doorway of an auditorium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. to prevent two black students from entering.

The actions prompted President John F. Kennedy to federalize the National Guard, per executive order 11111.

Gen. Henry Graham was dispatched to the university and confronted Wallace, who eventually stepped aside.

What was it that came exploding out of the window where the fire was? It looked as if it broke into two pieces as it was falling, with small bits of debris scattering off them as they neared the ground.

The Daily Caller reports:

Many California sheriffs are speaking out against the state’s new status as a sanctuary, calling on Congress to pass a federal law to change it.

The National Sheriffs Association’s CEO Jonathan Thompson called the bill “reckless.” He said sheriffs across America are disappointed in the bill, which prevents police officers from questioning or detaining people.

“They just outlawed crime fighting in California…the legislature and the governor are honoring thugs, rapists, murderers, and serial criminals.”

Something is worth noting here – Thompson’s final words sound a lot like Trump on the campaign trail. You know, the overblown and MSM-hyped ‘Trump is calling all Mexicans rapists!’ lie.

This time, though, it’s a California sheriff saying the very same thing. I wonder if any lib reporters will point out that Trump was right. I’m not holding my breath.

While Thompson and all other California sheriffs are beyond furious at Governor Brown – and looking for ways to keep doing their jobs effectively, despite the governor’s activism – there’s not much that can be done except to speak out.

And maybe petition the president himself.
