Nationwide vote on Russian constitutional changes to be held on July 1 – Putin

Russians will vote on a package of amendments to the constitution on July 1, President Vladimir Putin has announced. If passed, the new constitution would allow Putin to potentially stay in power until 2036.

On Monday, Putin agreed that the proposed date looks "quite suitable for holding an all-Russian vote on constitutional amendments," and called the scheduling "impeccable" from the legal point of view.

Initially planned for April 22, Putin was forced to postpone the vote due to an ever-worsening epidemiological situation. A package of constitutional amendments was passed by Russia's parliament, the State Duma, in March. They swiftly gained approval from the legislative bodies of each Russian region and the country's Constitutional Court. The bill passed 383-0, with 44 abstentions – mainly members of the opposition Communist Party.

The amendments include banning important officials from having foreign citizenships and restricting all future presidents' time in office to a total of two terms. The new constitution would also transfer more powers to the country's two houses of parliament – the State Duma and the Federation Council. For example, the appointment of a prime minister and other cabinet members proposed by the president would be subject to the approval of the State Duma.

Controversially, the new constitution would also 'nullify' the terms already served by President Putin, allowing him to run again for a fifth term in 2024.

Outside of structural political change, the newly amended constitution would include a controversial article defining marriage as an institution between a man and a woman. In March, the Constitutional Court determined that this amendment is legal, but does not remove the state's obligation to respect differences, including sexual orientation.

The Court also decided that the much-debated inclusion of God in the constitution is "of a retrospective nature" and "does not declare religious belief binding." Officially, Russia is a secular state.

According to presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, July 1 will be a day off work for all Russians, enabling everyone to vote.

Anna Popova, the head of Russia's consumer protection watchdog, noted that July 1 would be a safe day for voting, explaining that compliance with the watchdog's recommendations would eliminate the risk of spreading coronavirus when voting on an amendment to the constitution.

After agreeing to the date of July 1, Putin encouraged Russians to use the next month to figure out their attitude towards the proposed constitutional changes.

"It is no coincidence that the constitution is termed the main law of the country. I very much hope that Russian citizens will take an active part in determining the parameters of the main law, by voting on the constitutional amendments," the president said.

President Trump lit into governors in a conference call Monday morning about the riots. A tape of the call was leaked to CBS News while other news outlets are reporting from other leakers on the call.

Caught On Video: Tesla On Highway Drives Straight Into Overturned Truck At Full Speed

A dramatic video emerged over the weekend of a Tesla traveling on a highway in Taiwan, at what appears to be full speed, before slamming directly into an overturned truck that was laying across the highway. The Tesla appears to make little or no change in direction before hitting the truck. At one point, smoke can be seen coming out of the back tires of the vehicle, indicating that the Tesla may have tried to brake - but to no avail.

The Tesla was "presumably on Autopilot," Inside EVs said. "Clearly, the car should've stopped itself here and you'd think this scenario would be among the easiest for a system such as Autopilot to detect and respond to, but that's definitely not the case."

The video of the incident was taken by surveillance cameras on the morning of June 1, 2020, local time.

On Reddit, one poster postulated that the incident may have happened due to the vehicle's lack of LIDAR, which Elon Musk has publicly ridiculed and has said is unnecessary:

Radar cannot generally perceive stationary obstacles. Teslas have no lidar. The flaw with stereo vision is that the primary algorithm is looking for pixel shifts across epipolar lines between the two cameras. A solid color object has no perceivable pixel offset.

Tesla is also using neural networks, where the computer is able to estimate distance by assuming an object of a particular class is similar in size as other objects of that class. (so, for example, a 1/4 scale fire truck parked in the travel lane might fool it).

There are other things humans do vision wise that Tesla can try, however, the best fix is to just add lidar. Lidar can see nearly all cases of solid collidable object.

Recall, earlier this year the NTSB revealed that Autopilot had played a role in a fatal 2019 Model 3 accident in Delray Beach, Florida.

The driver had set the car to go 69 miles per hour 12.3 seconds before the crash took place on a highway that had a speed limit of 55 mph, according to Bloomberg. The NTSB also revealed that the driver's hands were not on the wheel for the final 7.7 seconds before the crash.

The NTSB had also arrived at similar findings regarding a 2016 Florida crash where another Tesla driver didn't react to a truck in the roadway. In that instance, the NTSB found that Tesla's Autopilot design contributed to the cause of the accident.

The driver was decapitated.

As MSM Pushes More Divide, Thousands Across the US Join Together to Clean Their Cities

Depending on which channel you’re watching or which website you visit, you are likely being told where to direct your anger. Even when it is imperative that we need to come together in such chaotic times, the mainstream media and politicians alike cannot help but exploit this chaos to stoke further divide. It is this divide to which they owe their very existence — for without it, they may lose control. The establishment cannot have people coming together, which is why it is setup to be polarized into two parties.

No one here is claiming that everyone in society must agree or it will be chaos. However, the two-party paradigm’s effect on the minds of people is stunning and cannot be understated. You could see these effects during the COVID-19 outbreak as people reacted differently to a pandemic based on their political affiliations. It is utter insanity.

Daniel McAdams of the Ron Paul Institute and friend of TFTP laid out the current situation in the media and government perfectly, noting: “They want you to take a side. And defend it. And get very bloody passionate about it. That’s what the game’s all about. Have you chosen your role in their play yet? Are you thoroughly pissed off like they want you to be? Hate the cops? Hate the protesters/rioters? Good. You’ve fulfilled their chosen role for you.”

While there is certainly no shortage of divide, the good news is that there are also inspiring stories from across the country of people coming together to undo the damage caused by it. Thousands of volunteers across the country of all races, ages, and political affiliations have laid their differences aside and are going out in their communities to clean up.

Protests have been reported in over 141 cities in the United States. While many of them were peaceful and saw no damage, others were not and now they are covered in spray paint, broken glass and, in some cases ashes.

In those hard hit cities, community members have come out in large groups to do what they can to undo the damage. Predictably, news of these efforts is largely absent in the mainstream media.

As Rachel Blevins points out, “incredible to see all of the community members who have taken part in cleanup efforts, which haven’t gotten nearly enough media coverage in the wake of the mass protests and violence.”

While it is likely that more protests will likely happen, leading to more rioting and destruction, the fact that people are coming together afterward to clean up their communities is a much needed boost of positivity during these most chaotic times. Belgium: Police halt planned Black Lives Matter demonstration in Brussels

A demonstration by a group calling itself “Black Lives Matter Belgium” that was planned for today has been called off after police refused to give the organisers a permit.

It is not known who is attempting to launch the group, as its only known presence is on social media. It first appeared as a Facebook page and group by that name and a Twitter hashtag. In response to questions, the organisers said that they “are not ready to disclose any personal info or identity yet because of safety reasons,” according to a report by The Brussels Times. They did state that the group was founded by four black women whose identities will be revealed at a later time.

A Facebook user going by the name of “Shanthuru Prem” has made most of the posts to the Facebook group, however, and seems to be their representative there. The group was created on May 29. Black Lives Matter Belgium clearly expects violence, as a user by the name of Jonie Adriaensen shared an image showing how to extinguish a tear gas canister to the group’s Facebook wall earlier today.

The group had called for a peaceful demonstration at 2 PM today at the Place de Monnaie. The police refused to give them a permit for the event, however, citing the ongoing Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) social distancing measures as a reason for the ban. Public events are still restricted in Belgium.

The Facebook event page for the demonstration, which has since been deleted, showed that over 1,000 people were planning to attend and more than 2,000 were interested in attending.

The planned event also received a great deal of criticism from the public from people who were concerned about their intended disregard for the lockdown measures. Others questioned why the organisers wanted to remain anonymous and accused them of possibly being agent provocateurs trying to stir up trouble for some other motive. The Belgian anti-racist organisation Sans Blanc De Rien urged its members not to attend, citing the lack of information about who was behind it.

Black Lives Matter Belgium’s supporters, whoever they are, do not appear to be deterred by the police’s decision, however, as they are asking for people who are willing to provide “support for the upcoming action” to contact them. They also say that their Facebook group will be made private in the coming days.

Black Lives Matter Belgium is, however, listed as one of the hosts of a demonstration called for 4 PM in Gent today called “I Can’t Breathe,” according to its Facebook event page. The phrase has been a rallying cry for rioters in the United States over the past week.

Black Lives Matter, a well-known “anti-racist” organisation in the United States, has been prominently visible in the ongoing rioting occurring in cities across the United States. The riots began last week after an unarmed black man, George Floyd, died while being taken into police custody, as previously reported by Voice of Europe. UFC Star Jon Jones Stops Rioters In Albuquerque

UFC star Jon Jones had zero tolerance for Sunday night rioters in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jones posted an Instagram video early Monday morning of him stopping people with spray paint cans vandalizing the city. Riots and protests have spread across America in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.

“Why the f**k are you punk ass teenagers destroying our cities!?? As a young black man trust me I’m frustrated as well but this is not the way, we are starting to make a bad situation worse,” Jones wrote on the Instagram video. You can watch the whole thing below.

Local voices are the strongest when it comes to people listening, and we need people in our communities to help put an end to this.

In terms of people you would never want to get into a physical altercation with, he’s right at the top of the list. He might not have done what J.R. Smith did, but I wouldn’t want to test him.

Gretchen Whitmer Silent After Governor’s Office Attacked by Rioters

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) office building was attacked in downtown Lansing on Sunday, and so far, she has not responded to that, or the other destruction in the capital city.

The George Romney Building — named after Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-UT) father — suffered damage after rioters broke several windows and sprayed graffiti on pillars.

“Communities are hurting, having felt that calls for equity, justice, safety, and opportunity have gone unheard for too long,” Whitmer and Lt. Gov. Garland Gilchrist said.

“The First Amendment right to protest has never been more important, and in this moment when we are still battling a killer virus, it is crucial that those who choose to demonstrate do so peacefully, and in a way that follows social distancing guidelines to protect public health.”

BET Founder Robert Johnson Calls for ‘$14 Trillion’ for Slavery Reparations

The founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET), Robert Johnson says the recent riots prove that the U.S. needs to “go big” with a “$14 trillion” expenditure for slavery reparations as a way to address racial inequality in America.

Appearing on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday, Robert Johnson insisted, “Now is the time to go big” with a really big plan.

“Wealth transfer is what’s needed,” he exclaimed. “Think about this. Since 200-plus-years or so of slavery, labor taken with no compensation, is a wealth transfer. Denial of access to education, which is a primary driver of accumulation of income and wealth, is a wealth transfer.”

Leslie Jones: ‘Burn Down This F**king Constitution’

Former Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones says people participating in the nationwide protests in response to the police involved death of George Floyd should focus on voting — saying, “burn down this fucking Constitution’ — rather than burning property.

“I love that you guys are protesting and see how quick you did it. But I’m gonna tell you, to get the fuck what you really want, we’re going to have to change the fucking system. And to change the system, we have to fucking vote,” Jones said, reflecting on her role in the 1992 Los Angeles riots and expressed admiration for protesters. “You want to burn down buildings? Burn down this fucking Constitution. And we do that by fucking lifting our voice, by fucking voting… That’s how we really show them.”

The Ghostbusters star questioned how effective protesting really is compared with taking to the ballot box. Jones also warned of the dangers of the Chinese coronavirus spreading as a result, having previously suggested that President Donald Trump is responsible for all the deaths from the pandemic.

“I want y’all to protest if you feel that you gotta protest, but is it going to change anything?” Jones said. “That’s what we really gotta think about, what the fuck can we really do to get what we want… We’re going to show them what we fucking mean by voting!”

Please be careful. There’s still is pandemic, there’s still a fucking virus out,” the comedian added. “If you’re going to go out and protest please be safe… That’s from a real point in my fucking heart.”

The nationwide “protests” referred to by Jones have wreaked havoc and destruction across American towns and cities, and in many cases against black-owned businesses and majority-black communities. As well as the vandalism and looting of dozens of public and privately owned institutions, including the Lincoln Memorial, there have also been countless acts of violence against innocent citizens and police.
