Police: Rioters Set Fire to Home with Child Inside, Then Block Firefighters

The chief of the Richmond, Virginia, police department said Sunday that rioters set fire to a multi-family home with a child inside while blocking access for firefighters to get through to save the child.

“One incident that is particularly poignant, that truly illustrates the seriousness of the issues we’re facing,” Chief Will Smith told reporters. “Protesters intentionally set fire to an occupied building on [West] Broad Street. This is not the only occupied building that has been set fire to in the last two days.”

“They prohibited us from getting on scene,” the police chief continued. “We had to force our way to make a clear path for the fire department.”

Luckily, officers found a way to access the building, saving the child and the rest of the family.

“Protesters intercepted that fire apparatus several blocks away with vehicles and blocked that fire department’s access to the structure fire,” Smith said. “Inside that home was a child.”

“Officers were able to,” Smith said, with his voice overcome with emotion, “help those people out of the house.”

Protests and riots began popping up in places such as Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri; and Oakland, California, to demonstrate against the manner in which George Floyd died after a Minneapolis police officer pinned his neck using his knee for nearly ten minutes.

Four officers were fired since that incident, and one of the officers, Derek Chauvin, was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter less than 50 minutes after his arrest was made public.

A bar owner shot a protester on Saturday night after the mob came for him and his business. The incident was caught on video. You can hear the person taking the video warning the people to stay back, shouting “This n* got a gun!… It’s not worth it, n*!” as the mob encroached on a backpedaling Jake Gardner, owner of The Hive bar in Omaha, Nebraska. The mob starts to tackle Gardner to the ground, and shots start to ring out.

22-year-old James Scurlock was shot and killed.

Gardner will not be facing charges, as the Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine announced on Monday, proclaiming Gardner’s actions to be in self defense.

The white bar owner who shot and killed a 22-year-old black Omaha man fired in self-defense after ending up on the ground in the middle of a group Saturday night, Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Monday.

In turn, Kleine said, Jake Gardner, owner of The Hive bar near 12th and Harney Streets, will not be charged in the death of James Scurlock. Kleine said he reviewed the evidence — and interviews with witnesses — and determined that Gardner had acted in self-defense.

At the press conference, Kleine said he looked for any evidence of instigation or slurs coming from Gardner.

Kleine said one protester who was interviewed by investigators said, “I’m not a fan of the police department, but I was there and I didn’t hear anything like that (slurs) when I was standing there.”

Kleine said he would welcome other video of the incident, but he said it would have to be “substantially” different from the evidence officials currently have to change his mind on charges. The consensus from law enforcement officials who reviewed the evidence, he said, was that it was self-defense.

Gardner was taken to Omaha police headquarters after the shooting late Saturday night and was released late Sunday night, Kleine said.

‘Anonymous’ Hijacks Chicago Police Radios to Play NWA’s ‘F*ck The Police’ During Protests

The mysterious hacktivist group recently announced its return to support ongoing protests against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death.

With cities across the United States facing raging unrest in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department, law enforcement agencies have had their hands full trying to control the massive backlash on all fronts.

And now, things may have gotten much more complicated after the long-dormant hacktivist group Anonymous has made a sudden reappearance to support those who are fighting against police brutality across the country.

On Saturday night as major cities like Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis and Chicago were awash in battles between police and civilians, the hacker collective made its first set of moves to kick off its return to the scene.

One of the first actions the group took was hijacking the police radio scanners belonging to the Chicago PD and using it to play NWA’s 1988 hip-hop classic “Fuck Tha Police,” the protest song against police harassment and brutality that became the unofficial anthem of the Los Angeles Uprising of 1992.

While the group controlled Chicago police scanners, they also played polka music – a fitting choice considering that the Windy City is the unofficial U.S. capital of the European musical genre.

The Minneapolis Police Department’s website was also disabled along with the parent City of Minneapolis site, according to a number of user reports.

By early Sunday, visitors to the site continued to notice issues, including being forced to enter “captchas” proving they weren’t bots in the front-end interface hosted by security firm Cloudflare – a common sign that the sites were facing distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks meant to disable the site by flooding it with traffic, Variety reports.

The disruptions to Chicago PD scanners and Minneapolis municipal sites came right after social media accounts claiming to be affiliated with Anonymous released a video on May 28 putting Minneapolis PD on notice that the group “will be exposing your many crimes to the world,” adding that last Monday’s “brutal killing of George Floyd… is merely the tip of the iceberg in a long list of high-profile cases of wrongful death at the hands of officers in your state.”

WHO’s chief wants good ties with US to continue, as Trump announces exit

World Health Organization (WHO) head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, at a briefing on Monday, praised the United States’ “immense” contribution to global health. He also urged a continuation of good ties despite President Donald Trump’s move to quit the UN body.

Trump announced on Friday he would cut ties with the WHO, accusing it of becoming a puppet of China during the global coronavirus crisis.

Another WHO official, epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove, was asked at the same briefing about health risks during protests in the US. Close contact could heighten the risk of spreading the Covid-19 virus, Reuters quoted the official as saying.

About 75% of UN aid programs in Yemen will ‘close or reduce operations’

Aid organizations are making an urgent plea for funding to shore up their operations in war-torn Yemen, the United Nations has said. Some 75 percent of UN programs in Yemen have had to shut their doors or reduce operations.

The World Food Programme has had to halve rations, and UN-funded health services have been reduced in 189 out of 369 hospitals nationwide, AP reported.

The dwindling funds are the result of several factors, including obstruction by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. They control the capital, Sanaa, and other territories. The US, one of the largest donors, decreased its aid to Yemen earlier this year, citing interference by the Houthis. Reports also indicate that the coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate throughout the country.

It’s unclear whether the Houthis will allow monitoring and oversight or give UN agencies the space to operate. A UN pledging conference for Yemen on Tuesday seeks $2.41 billion to cover essential activities from June to December.

Judge Emmet Sullivan Bucks the Law – Says He Doesn’t have to Drop Case Just Because DOJ Dropped Charges and He Has Right to Investigate Flynn!

Judge Sullivan extended the case by soliciting amicus briefs to allow for public comment on Flynn’s criminal case.

Judge Sullivan also appointed retired Clinton appointee judge John Gleeson to argue against the government’s motion to dismiss the charge against Flynn!
