Kinda sounds like The Mist and The Langoliers.
Also, when I think of black goo, Venom comes to mind.
So they either collected some of the bricks, or theyre distributing them.
Not sure which here.
As deep as I've gone, and I've gone deep, I have yet to see/hear this, but given their diabolical nature, I wouldnt put it past them.
