Do The Protestors Need To Be Quarantined?

For months now we have quarantined people involved in mass gatherings. Why aren't we doing it now?

A week ago, or seven years ago in Chinese virus time, outrage struck much of America as partiers gathered in a giant pool in the Ozarks. Video of the hundreds of people frolicking, with seemingly no care about the disease produced no small amount of scolding, but also produced something else. The County of St. Louis Missouri called on attendees to quarantine for two weeks or get a Covid-19 test.

Over the past several days and nights, tens of thousands of Americans have gathered in violation of social distancing rules and prohibitions on mass gatherings to protest the brutal killing of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police. Few if any people are against the protesters, the peaceful ones anyway, and their message. But will the gatherings have potentially deadly public health costs?

China’s digital yuan could replace bitcoin & end US dollar hegemony

The Chinese sovereign digital currency, which may be offered to the public next year, is projected to replace paper money. Analysts say it may even shift the global balance of economic power.

The People’s Bank of China last week revealed plans to have its sovereign digital currency ready in time for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Limited trials are already underway in four cities across the country.

“Looking back years later, the two defining historic events of 2020 would be the coronavirus pandemic, and the other would be [China’s] digital currency,” a senior researcher with Peking University's Digital Finance Research Centre, Xu Yuan, told earlier the South China Morning Post.

While launching studies on its own digital unit as far back as 2014, Beijing has cracked down on the use of all cryptocurrencies, such as bitcoin. Cryptocurrency trading has been halted on some 100 exchanges in the country since 2017, in compliance with regulation on fraud and money laundering. “They see an opportunity of being a global leader here,” Andrew Polk, co-founder and head of economic research at Trivium China (a Beijing-based consultant) was cited by Bloomberg as having said.

Russia deploys fighter aircraft to Libya, what does it mean?

Editor’s note: This article was written by Louis Tayler and originally published on Grey Dynamics.

This report seeks to offer an assessment of the recent deployment of Russian aircraft in Libya in support to the LNA.

Libya is in the throes of a second civil war. On the one side, the UN-approved Government of National Accord (GNA), based in Tripoli, is supported directly by Turkey, but also by Italy and Qatar. On the other side, the Libyan National Army (LNA), commanded by strong-man Field Marshal Haftar, and supported by Russia, France, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates offers a Tobruk-based alternative government.

The LNA had mostly surrounded the GNA in Tripoli and Misrata, where fierce clashes, drone-based warfare, and artillery shelling dominate the conflict. However, in recent weeks, the GNA, with Turkish support, has driven the LNA back.

'The President is not a dictator': New York Attorney General says she will go to court to stop Donald Trump deploying military to the state but does he have the legal right?

New York State's top prosecutor is threatening to sue President Trump if he follows through on his threat to deploy the United States military to put down domestic protests that were sparked by the police-involved killing of George Floyd.

'The President of the United States is not a dictator, and President Trump does not and will not dominate New York state,' Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement on Monday.

'In fact, the president does not have the right to unilaterally deploy US military across American states.'

Trump on Monday vowed to order a military crackdown on once-in-a generation violent protests gripping the United States, saying he was sending thousands of troops onto the streets of the capital and threatening to deploy soldiers to states unable to regain control.

He previously called on governors to 'dominate the streets' and crack down on protesters

California Faces "Financial Collapse" As It Moves To Allow Businesses To Walk Away From Commercial Leases

One of the bedrocks of modern US capitalism - which is now mutating by the day if not hour as the Fed scrambles to preserve at any cost its the towering edifice after decades of malinvestment, even the nationalziation of the very capital markets that made America great - and one of the constants along with death and taxes, is that residential debt is non-recourse, meaning one can simply walk away from one's mortgage if the bill is untenable, while commercial debt is recourse, or pledged by collateral that has to be handed over to the creditor if an event of default occurs.

However, in the aftermath of the sheer devastation unleashed upon countless small and medium commercial businesses which will be forced to file for bankruptcy by the thousands, this may all change soon.

As the Commercial Observer reports, last Friday, the California Senate Judiciary Committee advanced a bill that would allow small businesses — like cafes, restaurants and bars — to renegotiate and modify lease deals if they have been impacted by shelter-in-place orders and economic shutdowns. If an agreement isn’t reached after 30 days of negotiations, the tenant can break the lease with no penalty, effectively starting a revolution in the world of credit by retroactively transforming commercial loans into non-recourse debt.

After 3 nights of violent rioting, including fires, looting, defacing of property, and injuries to over 50 U.S. Secret Service agents, President Trump warned non-peaceful protesters that the military would be getting the out-of-control situation under control.

Videos of a US Military helicopter hovering over protesters who are violating curfew are circulating around on Twitter.

You certainly can’t say they weren’t warned.

Time for mandatory climate disclosures is now – Carney

The former governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, has called for disclosures relating to climate change to be made mandatory for financial firms.

Carney, who helped establish the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), said while support for climate disclosures has risen in recent years, frameworks have not yet produced comprehensive data.

“About four-fifths of the 1,100 companies across the G20 provide material TCFD disclosure
