Target authorizes their security to use physical force to combat shoplifting. I know a girl who was straight up tackled for trying to steal a $5 item. Wound up with several bruises, and on top of all that was charged with "armed robbery", because a knife that she kept in her purse for protection fell out amidst the scuffle with security and cops.
