DC ArchBishop Gregory Lashes Out at President Trump for Visiting John Paul II Shrine and Lies About Tear Gas Attacks on Protesters

Another leftist clown disguised as a man of faith.

Washington DC Archbishop Wilton Gregory released a statement on Tuesday lashing out at the President of the United States for visiting the John Paul II National Shrine.

Clueless Archbishop Gregory lectured President Trump on “defending the rights of all people even those with whom we might disagree” while at the same time attacking him for visiting a Catholic Shrine.

What a disgrace.

And the tear gas reports were bullshit, Archbishop.

What a HORRIBLE representative for the Catholic Church.

Agent Provocateurs: Police at Protests All Over the Country Caught Destroying Property

Police all over the world commonly use plants and undercover cops to undermine protests.

The United States is on fire. Since the police killing of George Floyd on May 26, millions have taken to the streets in protest, clashing with police. At least 11 people have died, and thousands have been arrested. 15 states (plus Washington, D.C.) have called in the National Guard to quash protests raging in over 100 cities. Violence has been widespread, particularly in the epicenter Minneapolis, where Floyd was killed, with buildings engulfed in flames, stores looted and vehicles destroyed.

While protestors are undoubtedly responsible for some share of the destruction, the country’s law enforcement officials have also been caught multiple times sabotaging and destroying property as well, presumably in an attempt to escalate the situation or to defame the protests.

In Seattle, police were caught on camera smashing through the door of a local Target, seemingly far away from any conflict or commotion.

In Boston, video circulated appears to show multiple police officers destroying their own car.

https://twitter.com/realDavidOnline/status/1267313633391869953

In San Bernardino, CA, protestors claim they held four hours of peaceful demonstrations until the police arrived, at which point the area was engulfed in flames.

Earlier this week there was also the suspicious case of the Minnesota vandal dubbed “Umbrella Man.” Video shows the oddly dressed individual methodically smashing the windows of an Autozone store. Umbrella Man was immediately identified as Jacob Pederson of the Minneapolis Police Department by online sleuths and real-life acquaintances, something the police have denied.

What is beyond doubt, however, is that police all over the world commonly use agent provocateurs to undermine protests. During the 2009 G20 protests in the United Kingdom, authorities used undercover agents to blend into crowds, spying on them. Police also regularly pose as members of the masked anarchist group Black Bloc, attempting to incite riots. At a 2016 anti-austerity demonstration in Montreal, officers were exposed and fled the protest.

State Terrorism Across America

In a blizzard of destruction, assaults on peaceful demonstrators, provocateurs, lies, cover-ups, and fascist proclamations, America teeters at a tipping point. The murder, by police, of George Floyd, has sparked a jaw-dropping response across America. Police in many locations have behaved as instigators and perpetrators of savage violence against citizens attempting to exercise their First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and to assemble to demand a redress of grievances.

African-Americans have over 400 years of grievances to fall back upon. The video footage is undeniable, outrageous, and the crime perpetrated with the complicity of other officers acting under color of authority. The murder of George Floyd will go down in history, but the end results remain unclear and desperately in need of political leadership to turn this into a positive push for justice reform.

Many police have also targeted and maimed journalists, who are also supposed to be protected under the First Amendment. We are now living in a chaotic military occupation, under a militarized police army that behaves as if the Constitution no longer exists.

The most dangerous development yet has been the fascistic Trump junta’s attempt to label “Antifa” as a terrorist organization, vowing to scapegoat them and persecute any members they are able to track down. This is classic fascism in action, another opportunity to seize power, divide the population, demonize, and declare new emergency measures—as the Nazis did repeatedly throughout the 1930s.

In 18 USC §242, all the officers involved in the killing of George Floyd could be charged with “Deprivation of rights under color of law,” but Trump’s Attorney General Barr has instead announced an arguably illegal war against U.S. protesters, labeling them as “outside radicals” and then deliberately failing to define “outside” of what exactly? Right-wing conspiracists have already gotten much mileage from spreading paranoia about alleged “outsiders” coming into small towns such as my own.

This divide and conquer strategy, demonization, and the emergency-measures agenda is exactly what Trump has been waiting for. He studied his Hitler.

Afghan Officials Accuse Taliban of ISIS Ties, Threatening Peace Process

Reports are another chance to imperil a diplomatic peace

Since the US-Taliban peace deal was signed, members of the Afghanistan government have made allegations of Taliban misdeeds with an eye toward threatening the process toward peace. Afghan officials seem aware that they can’t afford to avoid peace if the US is still supportive.

So those officials are always trying new allegations to see which stick with the US. The newest claims are that the Taliban has ties with ISIS, which lacks any solid evidence, and also flies in the face of open Taliban fighting against ISIS.

Since the US deal conditions the Taliban to have no ISIS or al-Qaeda ties, this would be a valuable way to oppose the deal, if true. US officials have similarly rejected recent claims that the Taliban retain some ties to al-Qaeda.

The allegations are built both on them being convenient if true, and on the reality that 19 years of US war has seen the Taliban and al-Qaeda fighting side by side off and on, and some personal ties are almost certain to remain after all of that. So far, however, the US does not seem to be willing to risk the peace over flimsy allegations.

Active-Duty Troops Remain Outside DC as Guard Force Grows

More than 100,000 National Guard troops are now activated for missions across the nation, and the Guard force inside Washington, D.C., to support law enforcement will reach almost 3,000 Tuesday evening as protests continue, the head of the National Guard Bureau said.

Air Force Gen. Joseph Lengyel said roughly 1,500 additional Guard troops from Indiana, South Carolina and Tennessee are joining the response effort in Washington, reinforcing a fully activated D.C. Guard force and augments from the Utah and New Jersey Guard already on the ground.

"Obviously, this is a very historic response from the National Guard," Lengyel told reporters in a call Tuesday morning.

Monday evening's protests in Washington, D.C. part of a national protest movement following the May 25 death of George Floyd, a black man, at the hands of a white officer in Minneapolis saw "a reduction in violence" from previous nights, Lengyel said, even as an increasing number joined the protest.

Meanwhile, active-duty troops deployed to the region Monday remain outside D.C. and have not yet been ordered to support law enforcement in the district, a senior Pentagon official said.

"There are active-duty forces in the area, placed on a short alert status," the official said.

The official added that the troops are located at bases inside the National Capital Region, but outside the district, awaiting a request for support. Military.com reported Monday that military police from XVIII Airborne Corps had been dispatched from Fort Bragg, North Carolina; it has been reported that the active-duty troops on alert total 200 to 250.

Another senior official indicated that there is significant interest in limiting military protest response to the Guard, avoiding the issue of Posse Comitatus, which prevents Title 10 troops from being used in a domestic law enforcement capacity in most circumstances.

"We really would like to see this stay a National Guard response to the degree that we have to put any uniformed forces against it," the official said.

The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. William Walker, is in charge of all military forces activated in the District of Columbia, officials said, an apparent contradiction of comments made Monday by President Donald Trump, who said in a conversation with state governors that he had placed Joint Chiefs Chairman Army Gen. Mark Milley "in charge." Walker, officials said in Tuesday's call, answers to Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy.

No Guard troops were injured in Monday's protests, Lengyel said.

Three Months, 6 Million Guns Sold

May marks third consecutive month of record-setting gun sales

An estimated 6 million guns have been sold since the coronavirus outbreak began in March, as May marked the third consecutive month of record-high sales.

More than 1.7 million guns were sold in May 2020, according to an analysis by Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting. That is an all-time record for the month and an 80 percent increase from 2019. The spike in sales comes as rioting grips the nation and the coronavirus continues to dominate headlines. Jurgen Brauer, the group's chief economist, called the trend "unprecedented."

"Firearms sales have surged in unprecedented ways," he said in a statement. "The boom in handgun sales has been particularly noticeable in recent months."

May is typically the slowest month of gun sales in the spring, but 2020's record-setting monthly figures were down only slightly from April's 1.8 million and March's 2.5 million—the highest sales total ever recorded in a single month. Most surprising to observers is the fact that May 2020 saw more sales than both March and April of 2019. The record-setting sales pace has been driven in large part by new gun owners, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the gun industry's trade group.

"Our recent survey of firearm retailers shows us that 40 percent of these gun buyers are buying a firearm for the first time," Mark Oliva, a spokesman for the group, said in a statement. "Of those first-time gun owners, 40 percent are women and these buyers are overwhelmingly purchasing handguns for personal protection."

The sales came as the death toll from the coronavirus rose to over 100,000, unemployment soared to over 20 percent, and rioting swept the country in response to the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. The influx of new gun owners has the potential to change the politics surrounding gun laws in America. Oliva said the record sales were evidence of Americans' desire to protect themselves during the current chaos.

"Americans are being confronted with decisions regarding their personal safety and are voting with their wallets on their right to keep and bear arms," he said.

The analysis of gun sales is based on data from the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) but does not capture every sale in the country. While NICS checks are required on nearly all gun sales conducted by licensed dealers, most states do not require them on sales of used guns by private citizens, and multiple sales can be conducted during a single check.

NICS also reports checks completed during gun-carry permit applications in its raw numbers. Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting attempts to parse out checks only associated with gun sales in their analysis.

Trump's vow to deploy military faces GOP pushback

President Trump's warning that he could deploy the U.S. military if state and local officials aren't able to quell days of riots is facing skepticism and in some cases pushback from GOP senators.

Trump, speaking at the White House, said he would deploy the military — sparking a new wave of speculation that he could invoke the Insurrection Act, which would allow him to deploy active military troops to states and cities.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) warned against further militarization in response to the protests.

"I don't think militarization is the answer to the anxiety and fear, the distrust … that we feel right now. It is not the response," she said.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a close Trump ally, said the law should be invoked as a "last resort."

"I don’t think the Pentagon’s keen on getting brought into this unless they absolutely have to. We need to restore order, but using active-duty military troops in circumstances like this is a fairly rare occurrence — so as a last resort," he told reporters.

Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the No. 2 Republican senator, told reporters he would "prefer that these things be handled by the state and local authorities. … You want to de-escalate rather than escalate."

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) told reporters that talk of sending in the military was "premature," while Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a member of GOP leadership, said that "ordinarily it's a local matter."

"Hopefully he won't do it, it won't be necessary," Cornyn said about Trump's remarks.

Asked if thought the president was floating the Insurrection Act, Cornyn added, "That would be one of the legal authorities he would depend on, but I think at this point that's hypothetical."

The Insurrection Act, passed in 1807, is a law that gives the president the power to deploy active military troops on U.S. soil.

It was used in 1992 when the governor of California requested federal assistance in response to riots in Los Angeles but has not been used since then, according to Just Security.

But other GOP senators signaled that they would be more supportive of Trump taking further action if state and local officials are unable to prevent riots or looting.

Top Pentagon Leaders Summoned to Testify on Military's Response to Protests

Defense officials will testify on Capitol Hill next week as criticism mounts over their presence near the White House on Monday, when police and National Guard members used tear gas on peaceful protesters to clear the way for the president to take a photo at a nearby church.

Rep. Adam Smith, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs Chairman Army Gen. Mark Milley have been called to testify before the committee next week.

"I have serious concerns about using military forces to respond to protesters, and I remain gravely concerned about President Trump's seemingly autocratic rule and how it affects the judgment of our military leadership," Smith, D-Washington, said Tuesday.

Esper and Milley, who wore his camouflage utility uniform, have been criticized for appearing in photos with the president at St. John’s Episcopal Church near the White House on Monday. The photo op came shortly after protesters were preemptively hit with flash-bang explosives and tear gas ahead of a 7 p.m. curfew in Washington, D.C.

The tactics were used to clear a path before Trump made his way to the church, where he posed with a Bible. Trump had earlier made comments from the White House on national protests and unrest following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died last week while a white police officer kneeled on his neck. He also participated in a call with state governors in which he criticized states’ “weak” response to property destruction and violence during the protests.

Esper, who was also on the call, has come under fire for saying that the Pentagon would support efforts to “dominate the battlespace.”

Retired Joint Chiefs Chairman Army Gen. Martin Dempsey tweeted Monday night, "America is not a battleground. Our fellow citizens are not the enemy."

Several Democratic lawmakers also spoke out.

"To Secretary Esper: My state is not a 'battlespace,'" Sen. Martin Heinrich of New Mexico said.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, who served on the defense and intelligence communities under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, said she's concerned the president and senior Pentagon leaders are using the military to further political objectives.

Minnesota, New York Officials Say Evidence Shows Weekend Riots Were Planned, Chicago Demands Fed Investigation Into ‘Organized’ Violence

At least one big-city mayor is now calling on the Federal government to investigate what appears to be an “organized” effort to foment unrest and engage in rioting, as security experts in other cities discover evidence that many of the weekend’s violent incidents may have been pre-planned and coordinated.

In Chicago, mayor Lori Lightfoot told media Sunday that she believes there is “strong evidence” of an organized effort to use the weekend’s anti-police brutality protests as a cover for violence, Crain’s Chicago Business reports, and said the city is speaking with at least three Federal agencies about a possible joint investigation.

“Speaking at an afternoon news conference today with other officials, Lightfoot didn’t say whether the groups are out-of-state left-wing anti-fascist organizations generally known as Antifa, right-wing agitators, local street gangs or something else. She said she’s asked three federal agencies—the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms & Explosives, and the U.S. Attorney’s office—for help, with a focus on AFT’s bomb and arson unit,” the outlet reported late Sunday.

“There is no doubt. This was an organized effort last night,” Lightfoot said in a weekend press conference, referring to Friday’s unrest. “There were clearly efforts to subvert the peaceful process and make it into something violent.”

The Blue Cities Burn

George Floyd’s Death Brings Rage and Rampage

On Monday 25 May, Dereck Chauvin was a respected officer of the Minneapolis police force. By Friday, he was unemployed and charged with one count of murder and manslaughter for killing George Floyd. Over the course of that time, riots erupted in cities across America. And, just like that, the Wuhan Coronavirus was no longer the number one news story in America.

The night after Officer Chauvin killed George Floyd, protestors took to the streets of Minneapolis to demand justice. Fearing a violent confrontation, Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey ordered police to back off. Without strong police presence, the protests turned violent. Rioters looted dozens of businesses in downtown Minneapolis, burned several buildings to the ground, and even overran the 3rd District Police Station. Americans watched as a long line of police cars fled the scene, rioters in chase. It was an anarchist’s dream. The riots spread across the country.

In Los Angeles, rioters battled the police, set fire to dozens of buildings, and looted stores along the toney Rodeo Drive. Police made hundreds of arrests. In Chicago, looters rampaged down Michigan Avenue and injured dozens of officers. Chicago police arrested hundreds. To contain the riots, authorities closed highway exit ramps into the city and raised the Chicago River bridges. Rioters shot and killed a Federal police officer in Oakland and wounded another. In Nashville, rioters set fire to city hall. In Portland, rioters attacked banks, looted the city’s shopping mall, broke into and trashed the justice center municipal building. In New York City, rioters attacked police with Molotov Cocktails. Rioters broke the façade of CNN Center in Atlanta. In Washington, a mob tried to storm the White House grounds.

Amid the riots were acts of humanity. In Brooklyn, protest organizers stood in front of the entrance to a Target store and held off would be looters. In Louisville, peaceful protestors locked arms and formed a human shield around a riot cop who’d been cut off from his unit. Peaceful protestors in Washington stopped an agitator from hammering the sidewalk into throwable pieces of rock and handed him over to police. In Michigan, the Genesee County Sheriff took off his helmet, put down his baton, and walked in solidarity with the marchers. Newark protestors were entirely peaceful and danced in the streets. In Minneapolis, hundreds of volunteers helped business owners clean up.

Trump Signs an Executive Order to Promote International Religious Freedom

WASHINGTON—President Trump signed June 2 an executive order to prioritize religious freedom in U.S. foreign policy and assistance programs.

“Religious freedom for all people worldwide is a foreign policy priority of the United States, and the United States will respect and vigorously promote this freedom,” the order stated.

“Within 180 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of State shall, in consultation with the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), develop a plan to prioritize international religious freedom in the planning and implementation of United States foreign policy and in the foreign assistance programs of the Department of State and USAID.”

The new order also allocates at least $50 million per year for programs that promote international religious freedom.

Eighty percent of the world’s population live in countries where religious liberty is threatened or banned.

In September last year, Trump called on countries to end religious persecution around the world at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. He was the first leader to initiate such a discussion at the UNGA high-level meetings.

'Random Piles of Bricks' Magically Appearing at Protests While Agitators Hand Out Cash to Rioters

A video from New York City shows a protester heaving a brick through a window. This is a common sight the last few nights as riots have broken out in the wake of protests over the killing of George Floyd.

Ever wonder where those bricks come from? No doubt, a nearby construction site, right? Believing anything else is nutty and a conspiracy theory.

Tell that to the Kansas City Police.

“Stashes of bricks”? What’s a stash of bricks doing in the middle of a Manhattan street with no construction project around?

Fox News:

Unconfirmed videos emerged on social media that claimed to show random stacks of bricks in the middle of some of these protest locations. Breaking911, a Twitter handle with nearly 700,000 followers, posted that “videos continue to surface showing protesters stumbling upon pallets of bricks or pavers in areas with no construction taking place.”

Videos of rioters stumbling on these piles prompted several theories online about their origin, ranging from them being planted there by police so rioters could face tougher charges to outside agitators trying to up the stir up more trouble.

ICE T, who has spoken out against police brutality and in favor of the protesters, posted a Twitter video that showed some of the bricks, and wrote, “Looks like a set up to me…There’s ALWAYS more than meets the eye.”

Yes, there is, and it’s happening everywhere.

Here’s a white agitator handing out money. Who is he? Who’s taking the money? What’s the taker going to do next?

Not quite a smoking gun, but the weapon is clearly cocked.

I believe in coincidence. I believe that it’s a tragic coincidence that George Floyd was killed within a few days of Breonna Taylor in Louisville and Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia. I don’t believe it’s “evidence” of all police wanting to murder black people, but I believe the perception of that is being spread by agitators preaching to a receptive audience.

Is it a coincidence that bricks are strategically located along the routes of these protests so that rioters can easily find them? Innocent coincidences have made a huge impact on history. But it’s impossible to say for sure if the “random bricks” are a coincidence or evidence of an organized plot.

Judicial Watch Fights Hillary Clinton For Testimony In U.S. Court Of Appeals

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit held a hearing by teleconference Tuesday in regards to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s efforts to avoid testifying under oath about the email scandal that dealt a blow to her unsuccessful candidacy for the presidency in 2016.

This hearing was held as a result of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit that aims to obtain records dealing with “talking points or updates on the Benghazi attack” (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:14-cv-01242)).

Judicial Watch, a conservative government watchdog group, first reported on the hearing, which has gone largely unnoticed and under-reported.

Clinton’s former Chief of Staff, Cheryl Mills, is also trying to avoid providing testimony.

According to Judicial Watch, the D.C. appellate court is considering Clinton and Mills’ extraordinary request, also known as “petition for writ of mandamus,” to overturn an order issued by U.S. District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth that would require them to testify.

On March 2, the lower court issued a statement, saying that Clinton’s testimony was necessary:

“The Court has considered the numerous times in which Secretary Clinton said she could not recall or remember certain details in her prior interrogatory answers. In a deposition, it is more likely that plaintiff’s counsel could use documents and other testimony to attempt to refresh her recollection. And so, to avoid the unsatisfying and inefficient outcome of multiple rounds of fruitless interrogatories and move this almost six-year-old case closer to its conclusion, Judicial Watch will be permitted to clarify and further explore Secretary Clinton’s answers in person and immediately after she gives them. The Court agrees with Judicial Watch – it is time to hear directly from Secretary Clinton.”

Clinton has argued that she shouldn’t be required to testify because she is a former high-level government official and that the FBI already tried to retrieve her emails from numerous sources when it investigated allegations of classified information being improperly stored or transmitted on the personal e-mail server she used while serving as Secretary of State.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals submitted the case, which is adjourned until Wednesday, September 9 at 9:30 a.m.

How Barack Obama Destroyed Libya

Libya’s long-running civil war has taken a new turn in recent weeks after the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord launched an offensive against would-be strongman Khalifa Haftar, pushing him and his Libyan National Army out of Tripoli and a number of near-by strongholds. But anyone who thinks that peace is at hand after nine years of anarchy and collapse should think again. Odds are all but certain that all it will do is introduce new chaos into a country that has already seen more than its fair share.

But before we speculate about the future, let’s pause for a moment to consider the past and how the craziness began. When historians conduct their post-mortem analyses, chance are good that they’ll zero in on one date in particular – Apr. 13, 2011. That’s the day Barack Obama welcomed Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, emir of Qatar, to the White House. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had just spent weeks lining up support for the effort to topple Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi in the wake of the Arab Spring. But in mid-March, she decided that the coalition was too western, too Euro-centric, for delicate post-colonial sensibilities, and so she set out to woo energy-rich Qatar as well. When Al-Thani at last agreed to come on board, his reward was an audience with His Coolness himself, the U.S. president.

But Obama should have paused before leaping into the unknown. Although Qatar enjoys a benign reputation thanks to its extensive economic and cultural ties with the west, its political profile has long been strangely bifurcated – liberal in some respects, increasingly Islamist in others. By the late 1990s, it was making a name for itself as a center for the ultra-austere branch of Islam known as Salafism. By 2003, reports were growing that local charities were funneling money to Al-Qaeda. But Washington paid little attention. How could such reports be true if Qatar was helping to depose the Gaddafi, long a thorn in the side of American imperialism? If he was working in behalf of U.S. hegemony, which is to say the ultimate good, didn’t that mean that he had to be good as well?

Such is the cartoonish mindset that prevails in Washington. After privately conferring with Al-Thani, Obama then paraded him before the press. “I expressed to him my appreciation of the leadership that the emir has shown when it comes to democracy in the Middle East,” he told reporters, “and, in particular, the work that they have done in trying to promote a peaceful transition in Libya.… He’s motivated by a belief that the Libyan people should have the rights and freedoms of all people. And as a consequence, Qatar is not only supportive diplomatically but is also supportive militarily.”

At which point, some emperor-has-no-clothes type might have popped up to ask: how can an absolute autocrat like Al-Thani care about rights and freedoms in Libya when it denies such privileges to his own people at home? A few hours later, Obama offered a few comments at a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago that were picked up by na open mike.

“Pretty influential guy,” he said of Al-Thani. “He is a big booster, big promoter of democracy all throughout the Middle East. Reform, reform, reform – you’re seeing it on Al Jazeera.”

Then he added: “Now, he himself is not reforming significantly. There’s no big move towards democracy in Qatar. But you know part of the reason is that the per-capita income of Qatar is $145,000 a year. That will dampen a lot of conflict.”

Immense energy wealth – adjusted for inflation, oil prices at the time were pushing $130 a barrel – evidently means that Qatar gets a free pass when it comes to democratic niceties that other countries are expected to observe.
