Police Are Deliberately, Repeatedly Attacking Journalists at Protests Across US, Reporters Claim

An alarming pattern has emerged of violent police attacks being launched against journalists and reporters covering the often-raucous protests.

As demonstrations against police brutality and racism have spread throughout the United States in the week since Minneapolis police killed 46-year-old unarmed Black man George Floyd, an alarming pattern has emerged of violent police attacks being launched against journalists and reporters covering the often-raucous protests.

Shockingly, the attacks aren’t only being waged against alternative media like Unicorn Riot or other press outlets – instead, reporters with full press credentials who belong to large mainstream news organizations are facing “unacceptable attempt[s] to intimidate” them, according to journalists’ associations.

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists reported Monday that it had tracked at least 125 violations of press freedom from Friday through Sunday night. The incidents, which are a direct violation of rights enshrined by the U.S. Constitution, include 20 arrests of journalists and a number of deliberate assaults on journalists using less-lethal weapons including tear, gas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets.

While such less-lethal weapons and chemical irritants are commonly used to stop mass demonstrations, they can also lead to life-changing and serious injuries, as well as death.

In several cases, journalists clearly identified themselves and displayed their press credentials prior to the attacks.

In a statement, Committee to Protect Journalists program director Carlos Martinez said:

“We are horrified by the continued use of harsh and sometimes violent actions of police against journalists doing their jobs. These are direct violations of press freedom, a fundamental Constitutional value of the United States.

“We call on local and state officials to explicitly exempt the news media from curfew regulations so that journalists are able to report freely.”

However, Donald Trump has continued to attack the media for reporting what he calls “fake news,” describing journalists as “truly bad people with a sick agenda” and claiming on Sunday in a tweet: “The Lamestream Media is doing everything within their power to foment hatred and anarchy.”

GCHQ propagandizing kids as young as four in secretive school ‘educational’ programs aimed at recruitment – report

Britain’s GCHQ spy agency is running secretive “educational” programs in dozens of schools and disseminating propaganda to children as young as four years old, without the knowledge of parents, it’s been revealed.

The intelligence agency is running the programs in at least 40 schools with access to 22,000 children who are potentially being spied on, according to an investigation by Declassified UK.

According to the investigative website, GCHQ officers themselves are operating in at least one of the schools and parents of the pupils involved have not been made aware of the extent of the spy agency’s role in the so-called Cyber Schools Hub (CSH) programs also known as ‘CyberFirst’.

GCHQ publicly describes the programs as giving children between the ages of 11 and 17 the chance to experience “new ways of learning” in an “innovative cyber environment” and aims to use the school activities to help recruit kids for the cyber security industry.

When I was a student at the University of Illinois, the various left-wing groups formed an umbrella organization called the Radical Union. They hung posters of Marx, Lenin, and Mao on their office walls. Their emblem was a phoenix rising from the ashes, symbolizing their desire to burn America to the ground and build their utopia upon the ruins. This remains the core of left-wing thought today and goes far beyond cheering on rioters and looters who set parts of cities ablaze in the name of “social justice.” Rampage is not revolution. The larger assault has been on display throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Their hope has been that the self-inflicted policy wounds triggered by media-driven panic would do so much damage to society and economy that they could seize power and impose their ideology on a reeling people. The goal is not to recover or rebuild from the calamity, but to institute the permanent shutdown of advanced civilization to preserve their simplistic values.

The New Republic, once the respected forum for responsible liberalism, is a perfect example of the ascendency of extremist thought across the entire left wing of the spectrum. They have even come to call one of their weekly summaries “Apocalypse Soon.” TNR has featured a variety of articles that play off the pandemic from “The Pandemic Is the Right Time to Defund the Police” to arguing that with major universities closed, small, private liberal arts colleges can now compete online to reach “civically engaged citizens of the world.” A detailed plan for the future was “Rebuilding an Economy that Works Again” by Dean Baker, a senior economist at the Center for Economic and Policy Research and a visiting professor at University of Utah. The hopeful title is, however, a typical left-wing fiction as the argument would purposely cripple the economy and send American living standards backwards by generations.

Baker’s assault on the modern world is explicit in his diatribe against technology and his policy proposals to hinder its future development. In a passage heightened by TNR’s editors, he asserts “It is mind-boggling that our outmoded and regressive system of intellectual property protection has not featured more prominently in debates about inequality.” To Baker, “technology has been a major factor, if not the major factor, in the rise of inequality… if anyone could freely copy Windows and other Microsoft software, Bill Gates would probably still be working for a living.” Perhaps, but he probably wouldn’t be designing software, because under Baker’s system, there would be no money in it. Incentive is a bad word to Baker, and a system that runs on it is illegitimate. Yet, the real nature of incentive is to create something people want. Money is made only when consumers willingly exchange it for a good or service being offered. The market represents people’s free choices, but that freedom is anathema to leftist totalitarians who wish to impose their subjective preferences upon everyone else.

US Coast Guard Seizes Nearly 500 Kilos of Suspected Cocaine Worth $18.7 Million

A recent US Coast Guard (USCG) counternarcotics operation in the Pacific has resulted in the detention of three suspected smugglers and the seizure of almost 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds) of what is believed to be cocaine.

The USCG announced in a Monday news release that a mid-May pursuit of a suspected smuggling vessel off the coast of Central America led to the seizure of an estimated $18.7 million in suspected cocaine. The release did not specify which Central American country the vessel was detected near.

According to the release, the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence (WMEC-619) was alerted to the vessel in question’s location by a maritime patrol aircraft.

“Once on scene, Confidence’s crew initiated a pursuit of the suspected smugglers who began throwing contraband overboard,” the USCG noted.

The suspected smugglers eventually complied with Confidence’s orders to halt and allowed the crew to board. Despite the dumping, some 494 kilograms (1090 pounds) of suspected cocaine were recovered.

The USCG did not mention any physical conflict during the incident.

This seizure comes amid the US Southern Command’s (SOUTHCOM) enhanced counternarcotics operations, which began on April 1, in support of the Presidential National Security Objectives.

More recently, SOUTHCOM announced the Colombia deployment of an advisory team from the US Army’s 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade. The combatant command noted the team will be assisting Colombian security forces in counternarcotics efforts.

The death of George Floyd was a great tragedy, and the vast majority of Americans agree that we do not want to see that sort of police brutality in our nation, and so this should actually be a moment that brings our country together. But instead, America is being torn apart. The protests against police brutality have been hijacked by sinister forces, and they are attempting to channel the outrage over George Floyd’s death in a very violent direction. As you will see below, law enforcement authorities all over the U.S. are telling us that they have identified a highly organized effort to orchestrate violence, and this appears to be happening on a nationwide basis.

Let’s start by looking at what is happening in New York. According to the top terrorism official in the entire city, “certain anarchist groups” were making preparations for “violent interactions with police” before protests in the city even began…

On Sunday night, New York’s top terrorism cop, Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism John Miller, detailed his office’s analysis and investigation into why the New York City protests have become so violent and damaging at times.

“No. 1, before the protests began,” Miller said, “organizers of certain anarchist groups set out to raise bail money and people who would be responsible to be raising bail money, they set out to recruit medics and medical teams with gear to deploy in anticipation of violent interactions with police.”

And once the protests started, these groups used “a complex network of bicycle scouts” to direct rioters to locations where police officers would not be present…

“And they developed a complex network of bicycle scouts to move ahead of demonstrators in different directions of where police were and where police were not for purposes of being able to direct groups from the larger group to places where they could commit acts of vandalism including the torching of police vehicles and Molotov cocktails where they thought officers would not be.”

These are not just mindless angry mobs. They are being directed with a purpose, and that is very alarming.

In Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has publicly acknowledged that there has been “an organized effort” to turn the protests over George Floyd’s death “into something violent” in her city…

Speaking at an afternoon news conference today with other officials, Lightfoot didn’t say whether the groups are out-of-state left-wing anti-fascist organizations generally known as Antifa, right-wing agitators, local street gangs or something else. She said she’s asked three federal agencies—the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms & Explosives and the U.S. Attorney’s office—for help, with a focus on AFT’s bomb and arson unit.

“There is no doubt. This was an organized effort last night,” she said. “There were clearly efforts to subvert the peaceful process and make it into something violent.”

A 17-year-old Aboriginal boy suffered a chipped tooth and bruising over his body after he was thrown to the ground by a white police officer who has since been suspended from front line duties.

After Daily Mail Australia published the disturbing footage, police suspended the officer involved pending an investigation by officers from the Professional Standards Command.

Senior officers also held meetings with the community and local elders about the investigation.

Footage released on the eve of an Australian Black Lives Matter protest showed the officer, who was patrolling Surry Hills in Sydney's inner east about 5.30pm on Monday, swiping the boy's feet from underneath him during an arrest.

Moments earlier, the boy, who was in Eddie Ward Park with friends, had threatened to physically assault the officer.

'I'll crack you across the jaw, bro,' the teenager said.

At first, the officer appeared taken aback by the outburst, asking: 'What was that?'.

Slovenia launches border security operation as number of illegal migrants increases

Slovenia has launched a border security operation and is significantly increasing the number of security personnel operating along its border with Croatia, as the number of illegal migrants coming along the infamous Balkan migration route has been going up.

The country has reported a sharp increase in the number of migrants attempting to illegally cross the Croatian-Slovene border in recent weeks. The authorities attribute this to the relaxing of lockdown measures in response to the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Greece’s transfer of thousands of migrants from its overcrowded camps on its islands in the Aegean to the Greek mainland as a social distancing measure, and the coming of spring weather.

As a consequence, Slovenia will be sending an additional 1,000 police officers to the border starting today to reinforce the existing security personnel. They will be conducting an operation between today and June 5 to impose stricter controls over the border, and to demonstrate to migrants that Slovenia is not an easy target, according to a report by Slovene Nova24TV.

The police will be making use of surveillance technology in the operation, including motion detectors, surveillance cameras, thermal imaging, and helicopter and drone patrols. Officers also interrogate detained suspects to gain intelligence on where migrants are travelling.

The Slovene Armed Forces will continue to be deployed along the border. They have been stationed there since March, when the new populist Right-wing administration of Prime Minister Janez Janša enacted emergency measures to do so, despite objections from the country’s Left-wing opposition, as previously reported by Voice of Europe. The police say that this deployment has significantly enhanced their effectiveness and gives a greater sense of security to local residents.

The Slovene authorities say that illegal migrants generally avoid populated areas, move mainly at night, and try to stick to forest paths and generally impassable terrain while hiding in sheltered locations during the day in an effort to avoid security patrols. They change their routes frequently to avoid allowing law enforcement to trace them. Migrants also often put their phones in flight mode when travelling in order to prevent police from tracking them that way.

Authorities in northern Italy have also been complaining that they have been seeing an increase of illegal migrants who have crossed into their county through Slovenia, as previously reported by Voice of Europe. The operation will presumably be aimed at reducing these violations as well.

Mayor de Blasio: We do not need nor do we think it’s wise for the National Guard to be in New York City, nor any armed forces.
