Parables 1 and 2 + clarification of previous post on “no one comes to the Father except thru me”.
Parable 1-2
Matthew 9:14, the beginning of Jesus’s ministries. Two gods offered…
14 Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”
15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Jesus makes clear that the Pharisees and the disciples of John the Baptist are worshiping a false god. For if they knew the real God, they would know Jesus and they would be celebrating with Him. Then he lays the first two parables on them which begins His ministries and the revelation of what is to come from the Jews once he is gone. Instead of fasting when Jesus is gone, they modify His story. It should be noted that the Bible too has a presentation of two god paths in each Testament; it is always up to the reader to choose. Additionally, the parables speak to the time of his ministries and to the past and future.
The depth, height and breadth of Jesus’s parables are a thing of beauty.
I made a mistake earlier on the “no one comes to the Father except thru me”, my apologies. Scripture copied.
The “no one comes to the father except thru me”, is a conversation between Thomas and Jesus. Note: this is in John (old wine skin) whose message Jesus warns us about in His second parable. Not all of the conversation is offered because of the exclusion of the gospel of Thomas in the Bible. Recommend everyone search and read that too.
John 14-5
5Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Once again, refer back to the division between the Father Jesus speaks of and the one the Jews worship. Two different gods offered, the choice is yours.
Note: for those puzzled by Q’s use of scripture, please understand that he is running an op and has to choose a course. Time is limited and he has a lot of stuff to cover. Q will not tell you the answer and I will try to leave mine open to the reader to choose as well. Also, if q started out pimping the parables, most of us would have found something else to do.
The choice is yours.
