National coronavirus updates: Wuhan tests 10 million people, finds few infections

"The Chinese city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus was first detected late last year, has tested nearly 10 million people in an unprecedented 19-day campaign to check an entire city.

It identified just 300 positive cases, all of whom had no symptoms. The city found no infections among 1,174 close contacts of the people who tested positive, suggesting they were not spreading it easily to others.

That is a potentially encouraging development because of widespread concern that infected people without symptoms could be silent spreaders of the disease."

Tech-rights group sues President Trump to stop social-media order

NEW YORK — A tech-focused civil liberties group on Tuesday sued to block President Donald Trump's executive order that seeks to regulate social media, saying it violates the First Amendment and chills speech.

Trump's order, signed last week, could allow more lawsuits against internet companies like Twitter and Facebook for what their users post, tweet and stream.

In its suit, the Center for Democracy and Technology said that Trump's executive order violates the First Amendment because it attacks Twitter for putting the fact checks on the president's tweets, which CDT said is Twitter's right as a private company. More broadly, the order is trying to curb speech of all online platforms and people “by demonstrating the willingness to use government authority to retaliate against those who criticize the government," CDT said.

“The government cannot and should not force online intermediaries into moderating speech according to the president’s whims," said Alexandra Givens, CDT's CEO, in an emailed statement. The organization filed the federal suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Man climbs pole, replaces burned flag at American Legion post in La Mesa

"LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man went on a towering mission up a pole, a day after vandals left their mark at an American Legion post in La Mesa, including the burning of a flag.

Just before 8 p.m. Saturday, a burning American flag was recorded being hoisted up a pole at American Legion Post 282. Before the night would end, vandals would also tag walls and shatter windows there. But it was the image of the burning flag that sent Cory into action after he saw the video Sunday morning.

"Really got me sad and upset at the same time," said Cory."

"Everyone has a right to protest, but I think it went too far when they disrespected the flag," said Cory.
