Summer, 1985, I was head of security for a large cooperation. I was contacted by a detective and informed of a rape which occurred the night before on company property. Asked if I had any information. Interviewed 12 security personnel and read all logs. Interviewed a half dozen others. Advised detective nothing unusual. Next morning I was called into cooperate office. Arrived and greeted by one female reporter for NBC and her cameraman. Was interviewed for approx. 20 minutes, maybe 10 questions. From the questions asked, it was obvious the media had an agenda to portray the company in a negative light. That night, watched the interview with my spouse. I was literally blown away. There were TWO questions posed by the reporter on air that were NOT asked during my interview, and these TWO questions were answered with my answers from different questions. Two days later, the alleged rape victim (15 years old) admitted she made it up because she was late getting home and in trouble. No retraction, no apology and no return phone calls (a dozen at least) from the reporter in response to my inquiry as to why she lied about questions in our interview. This is the day I realized your profession is worthless. Your job is and has always been to keep the real truth from the people and provide cover for the crimes committed by those we have always been told to trust. You get no sympathy from me. Made your bed, lie in it.
