US Transportation Dept set to BLOCK Chinese passenger flights in tit-for-tat dispute

The US Department of Transportation has confirmed it will suspend Chinese passenger carriers’ flights into the US starting June 16 after Beijing refused to approve several US airlines seeking to resume flights to China.

The department clarified that it hopes to pressure China into permitting Delta Airlines and United Airlines to resume servicing passenger routes to China after both airlines paused service due to the coronavirus pandemic, insisting its aim is not “the perpetuation of this situation” in a statement released Wednesday.

“Should the [Chinese aviation authority] adjust its policies to bring about the necessary improved situation for US carriers, the Department is fully prepared to revisit the action it has announced in this order,” the statement continued.

Relations between the US and China have gone south amid the Covid-19 pandemic, with the Trump administration blaming the virus on China and pulling its financial support from the World Health Organization for its perceived sympathies toward Beijing. Critics of Washington’s response point to its refusal to take action against the virus until it was already infecting Americans despite months of advance warning.

The Trump administration last month accused Beijing of making it “impossible” for US carriers to resume China flights and demanded four Chinese airlines file their flight schedules with Washington. China has permitted its airlines to fly one scheduled passenger flight every week on one route to any country amid the pandemic in an effort to slow the virus’ spread.

Donald Trump Jr urges Barr to release Antifa communications with elites & politicians over riots

US President Donald Trump's son Donald Jr is pushing Attorney General William Barr to release communications between Antifa rioters that allegedly reveal the group's connections with politicians and other elite figures.

The younger Donald urged Barr to "just do it!!!" in a tweet on Wednesday, referring to rumors that the attorney general is poised to expose links between the "violent radical elements" that Barr denounced in an earlier statement and the politicians and elites believed to be backing them.

Barr blamed the violence that has overshadowed "peaceful and legitimate protests" over the police killing of George Floyd last week on "groups of outside radicals and agitators" exploiting the unrest to "pursue their own separate, violent, and extremist agenda" in a statement released on Sunday.

The AG echoed the words of President Trump, who has repeatedly declared the rioters domestic terrorists, and urged state governors to make use of the National Guard in cracking down on the unruly mobs.

"The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly," the attorney general warned in the statement.

Protesters Clash With British Cops In Front Of Prime Minister's Residence As Europe Faces 2nd Night Of Rallies

Update (1240ET): Reuters just reported that scuffles have broken out in front of No. 10 Downing Street as tens of thousands of people attended a rally in London Wednesday to protest the killing of George Floyd and express "solidarity" with American protesters, though they also drew attention to inequalities in British society.

Others in London’s Parliament Square peacefully knelt on one knee like Kaepernick.

The London march started in Hyde Park before winding its way to Parliament Square. Many of the protesters chanted "George Floyd" and "Black lives matter."

"This has been years in the coming, years and years and years of white supremacy," one witness said.

Elsewhere, a rally in Rotterdam got so rowdy that Dutch police on Wednesday asked several thousand protesters to go home because the anti-racism rally was too crowded and made social distancing impossible.

Update (1105ET): As more indications that last night was largely peaceful despite isolated clashes in certain cities, the great scramble to avoid blame for an attack on peaceful protesters outside St. John's Episcopal Church has now kicked into high gear with Trump claiming during a Fox News interview that he didn't order police to clear the demonstrators, which they reportedly did with rubber bullets, tear gas and other crowd control measures.

After a former colleague from the Obama era called on Esper to resign, the Pentagon chief said he didn't support the deployment of active-duty forces to confront protesters in American cities, saying that the National Guard is better suited for such purposes. Esper told reporters he knew that he would be joining the president to walk through Lafayette Park in front of the White House on Monday, but was not aware of specific plans at the church, Bloomberg reports.

"I did know we were going to the church. I did not know a photo op was happening," Esper said.

During a Wednesday morning interview on Fox News, President Trump insisted he didn’t order authorities to clear protesters from a park next to the White House to make way for his photo in front of a burned church late Monday. Trump and the US Park Police have been criticized for using munitions including smoke cannisters and pepper balls to clear peaceful demonstrators so the president could stand in front of the damaged St. John’s Episcopal Church while holding up a Bible for what has been disparaged as a photo op in poor taste by some.

"I didn’t say, oh, move them out,” Trump told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade during a radio interview.

"They didn’t use tear gas. They moved them out," Trump added, denying that tear gas had been used.

"As you know, last week the Executive Group of the Solidarity Trial decided to implement a temporary pause of the hydroxychloroquine arm of the trial, because of concerns raised about the safety of the drug," said WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. "This decision was taken as a precaution while the safety data were reviewed. The Data Safety and Monitoring Committee of the Solidarity Trial has been reviewing the data," he continued.

"On the basis of the available mortality data, the members of the committee recommended that there are no reasons to modify the trial protocol."

Defense Secretary Breaks With Trump, 'Does Not Support' Invoking Insurrection Act

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said during a Wednesday press conference that he does not support using the Insurrection Act which would allow President Trump to activate the US military for domestic law enforcement during violent, nationwide protests which have turned into riots in major cities.

"I've always believed and continue to believe that the National Guard is best suited for performing domestic support to civil authorities in these situations in support of local law enforcement," said Esper.

"I say this not only as secretary of Defense, but also as a former soldier and a former member of the National Guard, the option to use active duty forces in a law enforcement role should only be used as a matter of last resort and only in the most urgent and dire of situations," he added. "We are not in one of those situations now. I do not support invoking the Insurrection Act."

On Monday, NBC News reported that President Trump was considering invoking the 212-year-old federal law that would allow him to deploy active-duty US troops in an effort to control riots spreading across the United States which were sparked by the death of George Floyd, an African American who died in police custody after an officer knelt on his neck for over eight minutes.

Speaking outside the White House, Trump said that if the nation's governors don't call up National Guard troops to "dominate the streets," that "I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them."

Romania drops compulsory sex ed from schools after Church outcry

The Romanian Parliament voted to drop mandatory “sexual education” from school programmes today after it was condemned by the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Romania’s Parliament, with support from President Klaus Iohannis, initially passed legislation two months ago which made it compulsory for schools to teach sexual education to their students a minimum of once every six months, or once per semester. The law was supported by MPs from Iohannis’ ruling National Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party. Supporters claimed that the aim of the programme was to combat sexually transmitted diseases and reduce instances of pregnancy among minor girls.

The Romanian Orthodox Church condemned the legislation, however, calling it an attack on the innocence of childhood. The Church also opposed the law on the basis of children’s rights and freedom of conscience. This led Parliament to repeal the law in its original form today.

More than 80% of Romanians adhere to the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Iohannis will now put forward revised legislation which makes no reference to sexual education. It will instead speak of “education for life” which includes classes aimed at preventing sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy. Parents will also be required to consent in writing to their children being taught these courses, according to a report by Balkan Insight.

The repeal and the new bill are being supported by some of the same MPs who had backed the original law mere weeks ago.

Romania’s approach to sexual education stands in sharp contrast to educational programmes in Western Europe, where it is often strongly emphasised. Last month, a British school was forced to apologise after parents learned that 11-year-old students were being asked to define terms like hardcore pornography, transsexual pornography, and sexting as part of a sexual education course, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.

Gothamist/WNYC revealed Wednesday that it has obtained the recordings that expose a culture of impunity and lawlessness within law enforcement ranks in Mount Vernon, a troubled majority-Black city in Westchester that lies just north of the New York City borough of the Bronx.

The Mount Vernon tapes cover a period from 2017 to 2020, and were recorded by 12-year veteran of the department Murashea Bovell, who has been blowing the whistle on corrupt fellow officers for years.

Criminal Gangs Who Ransacked NYC Arrived In Chauffeured Cars, Used Power Tools, Witnesses Say

Mayor de Blasio and several high-ranking NYPD officials have already spoken out about the organized gangs of criminals who appear to be responsible for most of the looting in NYC. Now, a group of cops investigating the highly-coordinated crimes are telling local TV stations that they have evidence many of the looters were chauffeured to the "jobs" and brought large arsenals of power tools to help them break in.

Witnesses who spoke to these officers claimed they saw looters who showed up in separate vehicles work together in large groups to facilitate the looting that broke out in retail areas in Soho, Fifth Ave. and elsewhere.

According to ABC 6, one of the numerous eyewitness reports received by police came from Carla Murphy, who lives in Chelsea.

Murphy, in an interview Tuesday, said she started hearing commotion from mobs of people along her street and neighboring streets about 10:30 p.m. Monday night. She first watched from her building and then went down to the street and saw organized groups of people working together to break in to store after store in the West Side neighborhood.

"Cars would drive up, let off the looters, unload power tools and suitcases and then the cars would drive away," she said. "Then the cars would come back pick them up and then drive off to the next spot. They seemed to know exactly where they were going. Some of the people were local, but there were a lot of out-of-towners."

Murphy said she saw license plates from New Jersey and Pennsylvania and drivers had not even tried to hide their tags.

After calling 911 and not getting through, Murphy visited the 10th Precinct in Manhattan, where she says dispatchers mostly brushed her off. Police didn't arrive on scene until hours later.

French intellectual: So-called ‘anti-racist activists’ want to bring racial war to France

One of France’s most prominent right-wing intellectuals recently shared his thoughts on the US race riots which recently have consumed press headlines around the world.

Eric Zemmour, a widely read political journalist, essayist, and writer, on Monday appeared on the French TV network CNews to address the race riots which have engulfed major cities across the United States for the past several days, Valeurs Actuelles reports.

During the interview, Zemmour first takes note of Floyd’s personal history.

“He is not the partridge of the year. He had already done 5 years in prison for armed assault. Even before, he had already done it for cocaine use. He is not a guy who walks around innocently on the street,” he said.

Before continuing on about Floyd, Zemmour then turned his attention to Derek Chauvin, the arresting police officer who’s been charged with murdering Floyd.

“The policeman either. A nineteen year career, eighteen complaints against him, and two letters of reprimand,” Zemmour said.

“According to the first analysis, Floyd did not die because of the policeman’s knee on his neck. He died of several facts. First, he was in poor health, he had a heart condition. And second, he had certainly taken drugs, since he was used to cocaine. Besides, we see on the pictures, he does not look very well, even before the police brutalize him.”

“In France, we think that white cops attack and kill blacks. This is largely false. American figures show that 97% of black people are killed first by black people. White people are twice as likely to be killed as black people. 80% of white people are killed by black people while black people are mainly killed by blacks (…) American cops are not French cops, they have an easy trigger. 40% to 50% of those killed by the police are white. Blacks represent 14% of the American population and 40% of those incarcerated.”

The essayist also accused France’s so-called “anti-racist movement” – a movement which is analogous to America’s Black Lives Matter – of wanting to “important racial war into France” to show that it is a “racist country”.

Unsurprisingly, Zemmour’s commentary has angered many on the political left who believe that his controversial ideas shouldn’t be given a platform on television.

NY Times writer, author of ‘1619 Project,’ says 'destroying property' — as seen during riots — 'is not violence'

Nikole Hannah-Jones, the New York Times writer behind the "1619 Project," claimed on Tuesday that the destruction of property during the violent riots happening across America is not actually violence.

Speaking on CBS News, Hannah-Jones said that violence is what fired Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin did to George Floyd — and that it is not comparable to the destruction of property.

"Violence is when an agent of the state kneels on a man's neck until all of the life is leached out of his body. Destroying property, which can be replaced, is not violence. And to put those things — to use the same language to describe those two things I think really — it's not moral to do that," Hannah-Jones said.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist said "we need to be very careful with our language" in order to not conflate the destruction of life with the destruction of "things."

"I think any reasonable person would say we shouldn't be destroying other people's property — but these are not reasonable times," she explained, citing police brutality.

"So when we have people who say that people should respect the law, they're not respecting the law because the law is not respecting them. You can't say that regular citizens should play by all of the rules when agents of the state are clearly are not," Hannah-Jones said.

But when investigators brought their evidence to Gardner’s Circuit Attorney’s office in downtown St. Louis the attorneys REFUSED to press charges against the dealer and handed the police report back to the officers!
