MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Karin Tappero has all of her workers on the lookout for counterfeit bills that have been passed at area Twin Cities Patina stores.
“We’re just really, really trying to be very aware of all cash passed to us at this point,” Tappero said. “It appears they are trying to pass $100 bills.”
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 27-year-old Owatonna man pleaded guilty in Minneapolis Federal Court on Wednesday for his role in a counterfeit money ring that struck several businesses along I-35 between the Twin Cities and Iowa.
Daniel Jay Wilson pleaded guilty to one count of uttering altered U.S. currency. He was indicted along with seven others on Aug. 2 and entered his plea in U.S. District Court without a plea agreement.
He admitted that between Dec. 23, 2010 and June 21, he passed four fake $100 bills in the Mankato area. He also admitted he knew the bills where chemically washed $5 bills that were reprinted as $100 bills.
Wilson faces up to 20 years in prison for the crime. He will be sentenced at a later date.
