White House Press Secretary: ‘As of Right Now, Secretary Esper Is Still Secretary Esper’

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany voiced tepid support for Defense Secretary Mark Esper, after he stated Wednesday that he did not support invoking the Insurrection Act, which would allow active-duty troops to act in domestic law enforcement roles.

Esper called the president’s confidence of him into question, after he said during a press conference:

The option to use active duty forces in a law enforcement role should only be used as a matter of last resort, and only in the most urgent and dire of situations. We are not in one of those situations now. I do not support invoking the Insurrection Act.

According to Bloomberg News, the administration had not talked about invoking it recently. Still, Esper’s statement undermined the deterrence of the president’s warnings that he would deploy active duty forces to respond to riots if necessary, especially since Trump had ordered active-duty forces to the Capitol-region on Monday to use if necessary.

Asked whether Esper had ever expressed his views about the Insurrection Act in private, McEnany said that she was not aware of him doing so — which would be a rare instance of the Pentagon chief taking a policy stance on its own, at least without running it by the president.

“With regard to whether the President has confidence, I would say: If he loses confidence in Secretary Esper, I’m sure you all will be the first to know,” she said.

“As of right now, Secretary Esper is still Secretary Esper. And should the President lose faith, we will all learn about that in the future,” McEnany said.

Car Plows Through Protesters In Newport Beach, Driver Arrested

Not content with merely destroying the city proper, the protesters in the Los Angeles area have streamed out in the suburbs, including Newport Beach in Orange County. As Fox 11 cameras were rolling and broadcasting live, a BMW Mini Cooper went flying through the crowd. It does not appear as though there were any serious injuries.

Study Shows Hydroxychloroquine Does Not Protect from COVID-19

Demand for the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine soared after US President Donald Trump announced that he was taking it as an anti-coronavirus measure, despite that it has never been clinically proven as effective against the COVID-19 coronavirus.

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine has shown that hydroxychloroquine does not prevent people from getting sick when exposed to COVID-19. The survey was based on the double-blind placebo-controlled test that included 821 people from the United States and Canada who had no symptoms of the coronavirus before being exposed to it under the trial.

The participants were divided into two groups and received either hydroxychloroquine or a placebo 4 days after exposure. After two weeks of treatment, the results showed that the anti-malarial drug was no better than the placebo in protecting a person from COVID-19.

David Boulware, one of the members of the study team from University of Minnesota, outlined that the goal of the research was to know if hydroxychloroquine worked for preventing the disease.

“While we are disappointed that this did not prevent COVID-19, we are pleased that we were able to provide a conclusive answer. Our objective was to find an answer", he said, commenting on the results.

During the study, several members of the trial received minor side effects, but no serious consequences were registered.

The survey outcomes have found little support in US President Donald Trump's opinion on the drug, which he had been using earlier in May as an anti-coronavirus measure. Trump praised the drug as a "game changer" in the fight against COVID-19 and claimed that "it's good" when commenting on his own treatment amid warnings from the US Food and Drug Administration that the use of the drug could lead to heart problems if used outside hospital settings.

On Wednesday, the White House physician released updates on the state of the president's health, saying that he was "in very good health".

Despite active promotion by Trump and some other epidemiologists, hydroxychloroquine has not been clinically proven to be effective against COVID-19.

Public Health Experts Issue Racist Guidelines In Support of Ongoing Riots

Public health experts put a letter online for their colleagues to sign in the wake of riots nationwide occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its contents are hardly based on science, data, reason, or even public health. It is actually a flaming pile of virtue signaling nonsense.

However, you can bet authoritarian governors and mayors will use this letter to continue with their indefensible positions, like New York’s Mayor de Blasio sending police cars to make sure Jewish mothers and children are ejected from parks and there are no evening prayer services. All while his city is torched and looted by rioters.

Or Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, under whose despotic rule residents are driving to Ohio to get haircuts while there is mayhem in the cities. Or a myriad of other nonsensical policies that are being enforced nationwide. The several hundred experts on the signature page of the letter will embolden them.

For people portending to advance an anti-racist message, I would assert this paragraph is about as racist as you can get. Hey, you white people who support constitutional rights we don’t like. You must be treated differently than protestors, rioters, and looters because… reasons.

They would not even be able to use data to support their claims. According to the Washington Post‘s tracker of police-involved shootings, the number of unarmed black men killed by police has been below ten for the past two years. In 2018 and 2019, the number of police officers killed by black assailants was actually higher.

According to the database, there are about roughly 1,000 police shootings a year. If you subtract the 41 unarmed individuals, that leaves roughly 960 armed individuals who were shot by police. In those instances, presuming race is a factor is ridiculous. The officer is in a confrontation with an armed individual.

The latest data available from the Bureau of Justice Statistics is for 2015. The bureau found that the number of Americans over the age of 16 who had contact with a police officer was 53.5 million. If you do the math, the number of these encounters that result in the shooting of an unarmed black man is dangerously close to zero. It is a struggle to understand the use of the words pervasive and lethal in this section at all.

However, the nearly 36 million Americans of all races who lost their jobs and the hundreds of thousands who were in danger of losing their businesses are of no concern to these experts. Predominately white protestors were just resisting their orders. This is some unmitigated gall.

LEGO stops marketing police-themed toys 'in light of recent events'

The toy company also halted its promotion of 'The White House' set

Toy company LEGO requested Tuesday that marketing affiliates immediately cease advertising several of its law enforcement-related products and to even pull them from websites "in light of recent events," as protests rage nationwide over the death of George Floyd.

What are the details?

In an email obtained by The Toybook trade magazine sent on behalf of the Danish company, affiliated partners were notified that "In light of recent events, LEGO has requested the below products to be removed from sites and any marketing ASAP."

To be clear, the items are still available for purchase. It was only promotions for such products that were stopped.

More than thirty products were on the list, with a large majority containing the word "Police" in the name, including the Police Station, Police Patrol Car, Police Helicopter Transport, and even the Donut Shop Opening — which, according to The Toybook, "includes Police Officer 'Duke DeTain' and 'Crook' minifigures."

LEGO responded to The Toybook's request for comment on the email, saying in a statement: "We requested that our affiliate partners refrain from posting promotional LEGO content as part of our decision to respect #BlackOutTuesday and pause posting content on our social media channels in response to the tragic events in the US. We regret any misunderstanding and will ensure that we are clearer about our intentions in the future."

But all of the products LEGO stopped marketing were either associated with law enforcement or firefighting, with the exception of one: "The White House" set was also pulled.

Gaming critic Alex Donaldson noted on Twitter, "Wow, Lego has now gone a step further and is pulling down all the marketing for any sets they have that are based around the Police theme or include Police characters. That's a decades-long staple being stepped off."

He added, "This includes the Lego Architecture White House set, which pretty much spells out where they stand politically."

Police out in force in major cities to tamp down on riots as curfews take effect

Police were out in force Wednesday evening in cities across the country to enforce curfews that were seen as helping reduce late-night rioting Tuesday, and officials are hoping for a calmer evening amid the ongoing George Floyd protests.

In cities such as New York City and Orlando, video captured police taking curfew violators into custody just after 8 p.m.

Peaceful protests in dozens of cities across the U.S. at times turned violent as security officials clashed with demonstrators over racial inequality and police brutality.

All four former police officers involved in the George Floyd case were charged Wednesday.

Derek Chauvin, the former policer officer that kneeled on the back of Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes, received elevated charges of second-degree murder Wednesday.

The other three former police officers, Thomas Lane, J. Kueng and Tou Thao, who were on the scene when Floyd died, have been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the Floyd family called the charges a “bittersweet moment.”

Breaking: Medical examiner says George Floyd had contracted coronavirus

Did this have something to do with his death?

In a stunning collision of two storylines that are dominating headlines, the Hennepin County medical examiner revealed that George Floyd had contracted coronavirus before he died in police custody.

The medical development was revealed on Wednesday when the full autopsy report from the Hennepin County medical examiner was released.

The report said that he had first been diagnosed with the virus on April 3, about two months before he died.

The 46-year-old died during his arrest at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers on March 25, which precipitated national outrage, protests, and rioting.

The earlier, less detailed version of the autopsy report said that he had died from "a heart attack from subdural restraint and neck compression."

It also listed other conditions he suffered from, including hypertensive heart disease, fentanyl intoxication and indicated he had recently used methamphetamine.

An independent autopsy conducted at the request of the attorney for the family of Floyd found the cause of death to be "asphyxiation from sustained pressure," and added that "neck and back compression that led to a lack of blood flow to the brain."

Also on Wednesday, the charges against Derek Chauvin, the former cop who kneeled on Floyd's neck, were elevated to second-degree murder, while three other former police were charged with aiding and abetting murder.

Ralph Northam Uses Riots as Excuse to Push His Agenda, Remove Robert E. Lee Statue

Gov. Ralph Northam (D-Va.), who is himself notorious for the KKK-blackface photo on his medical school yearbook page, announced on Wednesday that he would use the George Floyd riots as a pretext to remove the statue of Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Va. In a tweet thread expressing solidarity with “protesters” but notably omitting any condemnation for the destructive rioters who have destroyed black lives and livelihoods, Northam presented his own agenda as the answer to their problems — how convenient!

“I hear you, and I am here to work with you––that is my message to protestors in Richmond and around Virginia. I cannot know the depth of the pain that black Americans feel right now. But I can stand with you, I can support you, and together we can turn this pain into action,” Northam began. “This means continuing the important work that we have begun together.”

“And it means continuing to take steps to right historical inequities in our criminal justice system, in education, in our health system, in access to business opportunities, and a lot more,” the governor added. “It means making it easier to vote, not harder.”

It seemed as if Northam were telling rioters, “I’m already at the forefront of everything you’re fighting for, so don’t worry, I won’t condemn your wanton destruction. Instead, I’ll push your agenda — because it’s the same as my agenda!”

At the end of his tweet threat, the governor admitted, “I know these actions will not bring back the lives lost. But they will help us create the systematic change that is needed to make sure that what happened to George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery––and so many other black Americans––doesn’t continue to happen.” Yet the situations of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery — horrific as they were — are very different, and race was only the clear motivator in one of those deaths.

While Northam has mobilized the National Guard, he has not deployed Virginia National Guard troops to keep the peace, and he has refused President Donald Trump’s request that he send them to Washington, D.C. Gov. Larry Hogan (R-Md.) sent Maryland’s National Guard troops to help restore order in the capital.

While Northam did “encourage” the protesters “to be peaceful” in a press conference on Tuesday, he proved far more interested in sympathizing with the protests that devolved into riots and claiming his own policies as their true demands.
