5.5-magnitude quake jolts Gulf of California
SAN DIEGO — A 5.5-magnitude earthquake that struck the northern tip of the Gulf of California Friday evening was felt across San Diego County.
The quake was reported at 7:52 p.m., according to U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was 42 miles southeast of Estacion Coahuila and 166 miles southeast of downtown San Diego.
The USGS initially reported the quake to have a preliminary magnitude of 5.5, with an epicenter to the northwest, near Alberto Ovieda Mota in Baja California.
San Diego Police Department and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department did not receive any reports of damage.
