I believe that people are peaceful AND also aggressive.
If you cause conditions, where it is forbidden to be aggressive, to say "hateful" things, you only need to create a situation, where it is suddenly allowed and "laudable" to riot.
People then will take this "opportunity" (which is actually a set up to get them to take to the streets) to vent all their inner aggressions.
And they wouldn't even know that their behavior has nothing to do with the death of G. Floyd.

People started to cook and to bake during the lockdown.
People started to grow herbs and vegetables.
People repaired cars, started sewing, knitting.

Many didn't miss having to spend so many hours in traffic.
