Google bans app that revealed apps that have ties to China

Remove China Apps, a service that promised to help users get rid of Chinese apps, is no longer available on Google’s Play Store. The app was popular in India and had become the number one downloaded app in the country.

Remove China App was developed by an Indian-based developer, OneTouch AppLabs. According to data from Sensor Tower, it had 4.7 million downloads since it appeared on Play Store on May 27.

Google says it disabled the app as it forbids apps that encourage or allow the removal of other apps.

In a statement, Google told us:

“We recently suspended a number of apps for violating the policy that we don’t allow an app that “encourages or incentivizes users into removing or disabling third-party apps or modifying device settings or features unless it is part of a verifiable security service”. This is a longstanding rule designed to ensure a healthy, competitive environment where developers can succeed based upon design and innovation. When apps are allowed to specifically target other apps, it can lead to behavior that we believe is not in the best interest of our community of developers and consumers. We’ve enforced this policy against other apps in many countries consistently in the past – just as we did here.”

The developer of the app was responding to the tensions over the influence of Chinese-based tech. The app also came after the Indian government made a move targeting foreign direct investment policies for Chinese companies.

An analyst at Counterpoint Research, Parv Sharma, also noted the app came amid rising tensions at the border between India and China.

Helicopters and Military Humvees With Mounted Gun Turrets Deployed for Protests In D.C.

Aaron Kesel

We have seen a lot of police brutality and crazy rioting over the past week. As a sign of potential escalation, video has emerged of Humvees with machine gun turrets mounted on the top driving down the streets of DC, while a black red cross medical helicopter was used by the National Guard to show force against protesters at the capitol. And if that’s not enough, there is news of protesters disappearing in Chicago.

U.S. President Trump vowed to use force against protesters and to deploy the U.S. military to DC, the nation’s capital. He also expressed he would do the same elsewhere if the protests didn’t die down and rioters didn’t stop the vandalism and looting that occurred in some places. Trump also said he had dispatched “thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel and law enforcement officers” to Washington, D.C.

A former Marine, Luke Thomas, commented on the video asking “Why HMMWV’s rolling through DC city streets with their gun turrets mounted?”

Although we can speculate what’s going on here with these Humvees and the horrible things they could be used for, it’s best to instead deal with the facts as they stand.

The Associated Press reports that approximately 200 active duty troops that were brought in to help if needed with the civil unrest in the nation’s capital will return to their home base. However, we have no way of knowing whether or not these troops returning home are the same that were seen driving down D.C. streets with turrets attached to their Humvees.

The official who spoke on condition of anonymity to the Associated Press, also noted that there were a total of 1,300 troops in the capitol region early this week as protests turned violent. Protests became violent in the aftermath of the death in Minnesota of a black man, George Floyd, who died after a white police officer pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for several minutes causing asphyxiation.

If Humvees with mounted turrets wasn’t enough to wet your police state whistle, a medical military helicopter was used to disperse protesters in D.C. as well, while the police on the ground kettled them and beat them. Even a CNN journalist was beat up by brutal riot cops. This all showcases that our First Amendment right to peaceful assembly is being threatened in many cases.

The incident occurred on Monday night after protesters failed to disperse during the curfew at the capitol at 7 p.m. EST. The helicopter flew low to the ground and was positioned just above those violating the curfew. The chopper sent gusts of dust and trash into the air near the demonstrators seen in the video below.

Award-winning photojournalist Nabil Hasan al-Quaety, who contributed to RT’s Ruptly video agency, killed in Yemen

Yemeni photojournalist Nabil Hasan al-Quaety, who contributed to RT’s video agency Ruptly and other outlets, has been killed outside his home in the southern city of Aden by unknown attackers.

“We at Ruptly are shocked and saddened to hear about the death of award-winning journalist Nabil Hasan al-Quaety, who was brutally murdered outside his home in Aden, Yemen on Tuesday,” the video agency said in a statement.

Al-Quaety was gunned down moments after leaving his home. According to some local reports, he was about to set off in his car when unknown gunmen opened fire. Other reports say the assailants initially attempted to ram him with their own vehicle, then began shooting when he tried to flee. The journalist died of his injuries while being taken to hospital.

“The killing of any reporter is tragic, but especially so as Nabil leaves behind a young family and a grieving wife who is expecting their fourth child,” Ruptly said. Al-Quaety worked as a freelance reporter, videographer and photographer. His work received international recognition in 2016 when the UK Rory Peck Awards described his video reporting as “rare and outstanding.”

“Nabil occasionally freelanced for Ruptly and we remember him as a hardworking and dedicated journalist who did excellent work with his unflinching coverage of the conflict in the region,” the video agency said. It added that his death is “a stark reminder of the dangers facing all journalists throughout the world for simply seeking to tell the truth and report on the horrors faced by millions of people.”

His murder was also condemned by the Committee to Protect Journalists, which called on the Yemeni authorities to conduct a “thorough” investigation into the case. “The brazen killing of Nabil al-Quaety is an outrage. Authorities in Aden must conduct a serious and thorough investigation into the attack, and determine whether it was related to his journalism,” said CPJ Senior Middle East and North Africa Researcher Justin Shilad.

Studies Show Cell Phone Towers Inflict Significant Damage to Trees and Human Health

Wireless radiation is ubiquitous in the world today but had only gained widespread use several decades ago. With the quickness in which it has been rolled out and utilized, many people have started to question its long-term impact, both on the environment and our health.

While many exciting changes have occurred as a result of the technology, like wireless internet and cell phones, evidence suggests there may be some serious trade-offs as well.

In a nine-year study on the effect of radiation from cellphone towers on nearby trees, researchers found that the electromagnetic emissions they produce cause ‘high-level damage’ to trees within range of the masts.

The study was conducted in Bamberg and Hallstadt, Germany using over 100 trees. After recording photographic and observational data, along with a measurement of electromagnetic radiation in the area, the scientists found that radiation did cause significant damage to nearby trees.

“This constitutes a danger for trees worldwide,” they researchers say, calling for more “scientific research on trees under the real radio-frequency field conditions.”

Also noted in the study is the fact that natural electromagnetic radiation emitted by the Earth and Sun does not have the same adverse effect as exposure to unnatural radiation, but most scientists seem uninterested in conducting further research on the topic.

“These results are consistent with the fact that damage inflicted on trees by cellphone towers usually start on one side, extending to the whole tree over time.” – Cornelia Waldmann-Selsam, Study Author [SOURCE]

In fact, this isn’t the first study to conclude that wireless radiation has a harmful effect on plant life. In 2010, researchers in the Netherlands conducted a study on the impact of Wi-Fi on deciduous trees and concurred that exposure led to signs of radiation sickness such as “bleeding and fissures in the bark,” and a “lead-like shine” on their leaves.

“In the Netherlands, a whopping 70% of urban trees are suffering from radiation poisoning, up from only 10% five years ago,” Popular Science reports.

In addition to its damaging effect on trees, wireless radiation is shown to cause adverse effects on humans as well. “Oxidative stress, sperm/testicular damage, neuropsychiatric effects including EEG changes, apoptosis, cellular DNA damage, endocrine changes, and calcium overload” are some of the most pernicious results which can arise from excess exposure to Wi-Fi, according to a 2018 paper published in the Environmental Research Journal.

US House Speaker Asks Trump for List of Agencies Involved in Policing DC Protests

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a letter on Thursday asked President Donald Trump to clarify which law enforcement agencies have been engaged in policing protests in the nation's capital.

"I am writing to request a full list of the agencies involved and clarifications of the roles and responsibilities of the troops and federal law enforcement resources operating in the city," Pelosi said. "It is alarming that here in our nation’s capital, the thousands who have turned out peacefully have been confronted with the deployment of various security officers from multiple jurisdictions, including unidentified federal law enforcement personnel."

US Congress and the American people, she added, need to know"who is in charge, what is the chain of command, what is the mission, and by what authority is the National Guard from other states operating in the capital."

Pelosi expressed concerns over "increased militarization." A lack of clarity may lead to chaos, she added.

The top Democrat in the House reminded Trump that officers from different federal agencies safeguarded different landmarks in the US capital.

Earlier on Thursday, US Attorney General William Barr said that more than 100 law enforcement officers have been injured during violent protests in Washington, DC over the weekend and during this week.

Protests against police brutality and racism erupted throughout the United States following the death of an African American man, George Floyd, in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota on 25 May.

A video of Floyd's arrest showed a white police officer pressing his neck for almost nine minutes as the detainee was kept handcuffed laying on his stomach, repeatedly saying that he could not breathe. Floyd died shortly thereafter. However, the protests soon turned into riots complete with violence against officers and civilians as well as acts of property destruction.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report on Thursday that reveals 5 of 6 jobless recipients receive more money in government benefits than they would from work.

Of course, Pelosi and Democrats want to extend the program.

Why would anyone work?

The CBO released their report earlier today and is their first piece of legitimate work in years.

Dan Mitchell from the Center for Freedom and Prosperity joined After the Bell to discuss this report today.
