‘Thank you, Iran!’: Trump says 'deal is possible' after Tehran releases US Navy vet

US President Donald Trump has praised Tehran for releasing US Navy veteran Michael White, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2018, hinting at a breakthrough that may pave way for a new nuclear deal.

“I just got off the phone with former American hostage Michael White, who is now in Zurich after being released from Iran. He will be on a U.S. plane shortly, and is COMING HOME to the United States,” Trump tweeted on Thursday evening, before giving credit to the Islamic Republic for its cooperation in the process.

Thank you Iran, it shows a deal is possible!

White was taken into custody by Iranian authorities back in June 2018, when he was visiting his girlfriend. The California native, who served 13 years in the US Navy, was then sentenced to a decade in prison, charged with insulting Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and sharing a private photo on social media.

As the Covid-19 outbreak swept through the country, the Iranian government ordered thousands of inmates to be sent home in a bid to curb the pandemic.

White was one of some 85,000 prisoners that were temporarily freed from jail, and remained in custody at the Swiss Embassy in Tehran until this week.

A total of 164,270 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran as of Thursday, with authorities warning about a "second wave" of the deadly disease amid an uptick in new cases.

Trump's rare praise for Tehran comes as the tensions between the two countries continue to run high.

Liberal magazine Slate declares violence is ‘important’ for protests, does NOT get censored by Twitter

A week after censoring the official White House account over a phrase construed as “glorifying violence,” Twitter is doing nothing about a liberal publication actually doing so, pointing to the existence of a double standard.

“Non-violence is an important tool for protests, but so is violence,” says a tweet by Slate, a famously liberal outlet, posted early on Thursday to promote a podcast called ‘What Next.’

It’s a faithful description of the episode, which is titled “A History of Violent Protest,” with a subheading, “Big structural change in America doesn’t happen without violence.” The show’s guest is Dr. Kellie Carter Jackson, a professor at Wellesley College and author of the book ‘Force and Freedom: Black Abolitionists and the Politics of Violence.’

The podcast and the tweet come exactly a week after the initial peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota turned into looting and arson. The entire US political spectrum came together in condemning the death of the African-American man, and the four officers involved were immediately fired and quickly charged, but the violence spread across the entire country anyway.

When President Donald Trump urged Minnesota authorities to restore order, Twitter hid one of his tweets, claiming that the phrase “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” amounted to “glorification of violence.” The platform doubled down the next day, censoring the official White House account that reposted the president’s message.

Baghdad to Reject Talks With Washington to Prolong US Military Presence, Iraqi Politician Says

Relations between Iraq and the United States have been strained throughout the beginning of this year following the assassination of top Iranian General Qasem Soleimani near Baghdad. The extrajudicial killing led to the Iraqi parliament voting in a bill which will see a total withdrawal of US troops from the country.

An Iraqi politician has stated that Baghdad will reject any attempt by the Trump administration to prolong the US military presence in the country during negotiations, pushing that talks between the two countries can only lead to a total withdrawal of American troops.

“The negotiations between Washington and Baghdad, which are to start in the middle of this month, would fail to produce any tangible results if they do not discuss the withdrawal of US forces from the country”, said Karim al-Muhammadawi, a member of the Iraqi parliament's committee on security and defense, in an exclusive interview with the al-Maalomah news agency.

Muhammadawi said that the Iraqi government "must heed" the parliamentary vote in January ordering the immediate withdrawal of foreign forces from the country, "especially American troops".

“The United States is trying to stay in Iraq and seeks to achieve that goal by exerting more pressure [on the Iraqi government] and revival of Daesh [Takfiri terrorist group]. The government must nip such attempts in the bud”, the Iraqi lawmaker said.

On 9 January, former Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi demanded that the Trump administration send a delegation to Baghdad tasked with organising the withdrawal.

The 78-year-old said Iraq had rejected the violations of its sovereignty, in reference to US military actions which breached Iraqi airspace in the assassination of a leading Iranian general at the beginning of the year.

Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), was killed in a targeted airstrike in January on the order of US President Donald Trump.

The move led to a split in relations between Baghdad and Washington, as the Iraqi government sees the extrajudicial killing as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and has also resulted in increased tensions with neighbouring Iran.

The US has maintained a military presence in Iraq since a 2003 invasion of the country which toppled former President Saddam Hussein.

Global Times Op-Ed: "It's Just A Matter Of Time" Before China Surpasses US In National Strength

At a time when Taiwan remains a crucial issue between China and the U.S., an "opinion" piece published in China's nationalization propaganda machine, The Global Times, claims that: "It is just a matter of time before China surpasses the US in terms of comprehensive national strength."

"No matter what card the US plays, it cannot change the general trend of China," The Global Times wrote.

The piece is being published a time of heightened tensions between the U.S. and China. In addition to issuing blame for the coronavirus pandemic, there are a number of issues being grappled with by the two national superpowers: intellectual property issues, China's seeming reluctance to hold up its end of the Phase 1 trade deal, and the latter country's insistence of continuing to devalue the Yuan.

But the most current issue at bar for the two nations remains control over Taiwan. Tsai Ing-wen delivered her inaugural speech on May 20, which seems to have irked - and is likely what prompted - this "response" from the CCP propaganda machine.

The "interview" includes Douglas Paal, Distinguished Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace of the US, and Jin Canrong, the associate dean of Renmin University of China's School of International Studies in Beijing. Paal is a U.S. resident and directs the endowment's Asia Program. Both were eager to push for support of China, apathy from Taiwan and skepticism toward U.S. policy.

Journalist Accused Of Sexual Assault After Runaway 15-Year-Old Located at His Home

HOUSTON, Texas — The Harris County Precinct One Constable’s office has arrested a Houston man on charges of online solicitation and attempted sexual assault of a child.

Hunter Atkins, 31, was taken into custody by deputies this afternoon in the 100 block of Chelsea Blvd.

Investigators say Atkins began chatting with a 15 year old girl on Instagram last December. She was located in his condo after a runaway report was filed by her mother.

Deputies believe the girl was with Atkins on at least three occasions.

Atkins was previously arrested December 22, 2019 on a charge of harboring a runaway. Today’s arrest and additional charges are a result of subsequent investigation.

“I will always work to preserve and protect the innocence of children,” said Constable Alan Rosen. “This young girl was manipulated by an adult who is a man twice her age. Such predators will not be tolerated.”

Atkins is a journalist and former sports reporter at the Houston Chronicle.

China’s Narrative on Coronavirus Contradicted by Leaked Document

It seems that this story is just getting started with the Chinese Wuhan virus, also known as the coronavirus.

The following is from our friends at the Epoch Times.

The suggestion by the Chinese regime that the CCP virus originated from the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan, which sold seafood, wild animals, and fresh produce, is contradicted by an internal investigative report dated Jan. 22 that was reviewed recently by The Epoch Times.

While some of the city’s first cases were connected to the market, the earliest documented patient wasn’t. Scientists still haven’t determined the virus’s origin; U.S. officials, citing intelligence, said the virus was likely naturally occurring, but may have leaked from a virology research lab in Wuhan.

As the world sought to uncover the source of the virus outbreak, Chinese authorities refused offers of assistance from the United States and other countries in research, while keeping mum about their investigations.

In January, Gao Fu, director of China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), claimed twice that the virus came from wild animals sold at the Huanan market. At a Jan. 22 press conference, Gao explained that the virus likely first infected people through contact with wild animals and the environment that the wild animals were in. Then, the virus began mutating and became capable of human-to-human transmission.

“The original source of the virus is wild animals that were sold at the [Huanan] seafood market,” Gao said firmly.

Then, in March, amid intense international scrutiny over China’s mishandling of the crisis, Chinese officials began pushing the unfounded conspiracy theory that the U.S. military introduced the virus to Wuhan.

However, The Epoch Times recently obtained a copy of the CDC’s investigative report of the Huanan market, which indicated that authorities took 585 environment samples from different areas of the market and found that 33 of them tested positive for the virus. The positive samples came from shops located throughout the market, as well as surfaces, walls, and tools used in connection with the animals.

Animals and the environment of farms that supplied livestock to the market were also evaluated, with all 139 samples testing negative.

While the report didn’t provide conclusive evidence as to whether the virus originated from animals sold at the market, it revealed that authorities weren’t forthcoming about its research and were too quick to declare the virus’s provenance, said Dr. Sean Lin, former lab director at the viral disease branch of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

The CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus, first emerged from Wuhan in late 2019, and has since spread to more than 200 countries and territories.

Shameless Biden Fundraising Off The Death Of George Floyd

In little more than one week, Joe Biden has made the transition from “you ain’t black” to “I can’t breathe” with the shameless exploitation of the tragic killing of George Floyd.

Like buzzards feasting on a fresh carcass, Team Biden ghoulishly rushed to turn the brutal murder by cop that horrified America into a revenue stream for his presidential campaign.

In an email sent to Biden supporters begging for money by using Floyd’s last words as well as fear-mongering that black people’s lives are endangered in American because of their skin color.

According to the email:

“I can’t breathe.” “I can’t breathe.”

George Floyd’s last words. But they didn’t die with him. They’re still being heard. They’re echoing across this nation.

They speak to a nation where too often just the color of your skin puts your life at risk.

The responsible group is a neocon front led by rainmaker Bill Kristol, the driving force behind a years-running propaganda campaign against President Trump by Democrats who presented themselves as Republicans and who advocate for aggressive militarism and supported Hillary Clinton in 2016.

The sick use of Floyd’s death shows that there is no level to which these ghouls won’t stoop but it is red meat to the party’s social justice warrior base.

It is a testament to how the Democratic party has become an openly racist party where dangerous demagoguery has replaced ideas and having the nation burned to the ground is acceptable collateral damage in exchange for political power.

Customs in Baltimore seizes over 14,000 unapproved COVID-19 treatment capsules, several unapproved test kits from China

BALTIMORE — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore special agents and Maryland law enforcement partners have seized over 14,000 unapproved COVID-19 treatment capsules and several unapproved COVID-19 test kits as part of ongoing Operation Stolen Promise investigations. Operation Stolen Promise is a national operation aimed at combatting COVID-19 fraud and other related criminal activity. The operation enhances collaboration with multiple federal agencies, along with business and industry representatives. Surging criminal activity surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic requires an equally robust investigative response to protect the American public.

HSI Baltimore has been actively leveraging investigative resources and partnerships to intercept fraudulent products before they can enter our community. In one seizure, HSI Baltimore, U.S Customs and Border Protection and Maryland Natural Resources Police intercepted and seized a shipment that originated in China and contained unapproved COVID-19 test kits. In another case, HSI and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted a package originating in Hong Kong and discovered nearly 500 unapproved COVID-19 treatment capsules.

“In uncertain times, criminals often take advantage of fear and anxiety, hawking fraudulent cures out of greed and disregard for your wellbeing. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. There are no approved test kits that you can get without going to your doctor and cures being sold online not only delay your trip to the doctor for proper care, but their ingredients can cause more harm,” said HSI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge John Eisert. “HSI Baltimore stands with our law enforcement partners at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and local law enforcement to investigate and seize these bogus products and keep the public safe.”

Murkowski, Mattis criticism ratchets up pressure on GOP over Trump

Criticism of President Trump from former Defense Secretary James Mattis and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) is ratcheting up pressure on other Republicans to push back on the president’s handling of nationwide civil unrest.

Mattis, who is as close as anyone to being universally respected on Capitol Hill, called out Trump on Wednesday for what he called the president’s lack of a “mature leadership” and accused him for intentionally trying to divide the nation.

Murkowski said she thought Mattis’s words were “true and honest and necessary and overdue” and suggested that it might embolden other Republicans who privately disagree with the president’s often controversial tone and conduct to speak out.

“When I saw Gen. Mattis’s comments yesterday I felt like perhaps we’re getting to the point where we can be more honest with the concerns we might hold internally and have the courage of our convictions to speak up,” she said.

Murkowski also admitted to “struggling” to decide whether to support Trump’s reelection even though she pledged to “continue to work with him” and "continue to work with this administration.”

The statement, made to reporters shortly before a noontime vote, exploded like a bombshell in the Senate and immediately became the top story of the day.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), a frequent critic of the president who voted for his impeachment, wouldn’t go so far as to comment on Mattis’s statement when asked about it by reporters and instead praised the former general as “a person of extraordinary integrity and sacrifice” and “a patriot who has sound judgment and capacity.”

After Murkowski’s endorsement of Mattis’s critique became headline news, Romney told reporters that his “letter was stunning and powerful.”

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), who has sought to keep his focus on legislation and not get caught up in Trump’s controversies, on Thursday as he was leaving the Capitol stepped up his criticism of the president’s tone in recent days.

“I think the president has done a pretty good job on his prepared remarks because he has condemned what happened,” Portman told reporters. “He has applauded the peaceful demonstrations, his prepared remarks, and he has condemned the violence.

“But [it’s] his tone and words kind of in between those more formal presentations that have not unified people,” he said.

Asked whether the president should shift his tone, he said, “Yeah, I do.”

“I think he’s probably getting that message from a lot of people,” he added.
