Mattis has had presidential aspirations. The dems would do well to promote a new IKE. He's a dem too, you realize. He would be perceived as a centrist to a lot of normies.
Out here in flyover land (Iowa where the corn will soon be knee-high), most dems are not far left, except to the extent that they are intimidated by cringe - wearing masks, that sort of thing.
As the window is shifting to the right, many normies will be relieved to have a "centrist."
